Unfortunately, these are old processors and I don't see any available new. Newegg.com lists a couple available as refurbished. You may be better off getting a new computer with either a Intel I3 or current AMD processor.

Depends on the socket type.. Socket 423 and 478 do not support core duo or quad core processor types. However, if you have LGA 775 (aka socket T) your motherboard will support the following:

If you are using Dual Core the mother board you are using may have PCI Express Slot. So that you may install Graphics card. Only for particular lower end mother board doesn't have this feature. Any way tell me your motherboard make and model no. e.g., Intel DG31PR, 945GNT, DG41TY etc.,

You can also use any other intel 775 socket processor as well. The dual cores are at the top of the list for performance that are compatible with that board, but if you're looking for a cheaper solution, I have that board with a 3GHz pentium 4 and it runs great. The chips to which you refer are incompatible with respect to the socket used for each as well as the fact that Core duo and Pentium 4 1.5 GHz chips are from separate generations, the latter having been obsolescent since 2003. Therefore, there is no single motherboard that supports both, and the Pentium 4, Socket 478 boards can be obtained from various aftermarket sources.

While the board for your Core Duo is widely available now

There really is no difference, there are differences in the E numbers though. Those are specificallt about it's GHz's, it L1 and L2 cache.

Though Intel Core 2 Duo is the same as Intel Dual Core. It's just a different name. This confusion is caused because of Intel changing the names of it's processors series. The Pentium brandname for example is gone. Intel Pentium Dual Core is now called Intel Core 2 Duo.
