Very hard to start. Will start with autostart and run ok. Spark very weak, Unit is 12 years old and has never broken down. IS it the coil? If where is the coil located?

1 - Hello Sue; Has it ever been through a saw shop for tune up (at a good shop $40±, it includes some cleaning, new plug, new fuel filter, pressure/vacuum testing, carburetor adjustment, etc.)? 2- The coil is under the starter cover. You might check the gap with a business or index card. 3 - Have you tried a new plug? much cheaper than a coil. Lou

If Sears sold this saw, then go to: searspartsdirect.com and enter the complete model number (minus the decimal point). This will bring up a series of drawings of all replaceable parts, part numbers, and prices. If you replace the coil assembly, use a thin business card between the flywheel magnets and the module to set the proper clearance. That spark needs to snappy and blue. Hope this helps!

My Astro Start only works when I'm really close to my truck...Would it be the battery, by chance? Thanks

If the battery is more than 2-3 years old then it may be the battery. If you own a multimeter you can test the battery. If this autostart unit is aftermarket and the battery doesn't help you can also look at the antenna for that module. Its usually ok but if for some reason it fell down and was pulled on. A bad antenna would also cause this symptom. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

How do I fix the loss of power when it is running

check your clutch first if the engine speeds up but the bike does not.
If clutch is fine have the carb checked and if that is fine have a compression test.
Also ...are your filters clean.

Might be that the spark is weak or fuel is being introduced at a pressure too low for efficient combustion.

There are may things to be checked, e good bike shop would be my choice rather than diagnosing it myself. If the bike has been well cared for and has not done many, many thousands of miles it should still be good for a few more years......it can always be overhauled/rebuilt

Make sure you have battery voltage to the coil and igniter as well as a good ground . Test these with it running being careful though around moving components .

This AC makes a severe Churning noise when the compressor runs. It now makes a strange noise when your start the unit and then 'hums'. It seems to have problems with the compressor 'kicking...

lots of compressors make strange noises and run for years. I hate to suggest installing a hard start kit simply because I always wonder what we did before they came out with a hard start and machines lasted longer BUT, check amps on start up, amps while running, watch amps for a bit while it's running, install hard start kit. just like all mechanical equipment, it may last 5 weeks, it may last 5 years. Best Wishes!!

Many autostart devices also have security systems incorperated, first I would try to arm and disarm the system then try to start again. Then check the autostart controll unit to see if there is a reset or fuse. If not a reset often times there is a disable for the autostart witch will allow you to diagnos the starting problem without the aftermarket device. If non of that helps post your next message with an update plus make and model # for the autostart.
