My Yamaha HTR-5740 died on me leaving behind only the remote working (i.e. Yamaha RAV250 universal remote control). Will this work with a Yamaha HTR-6130 receiver? It's being sold to me without the remote. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

These buttons are the most used at the remote controls, so these are the first that came out of order. Since the volume comes down (this means that the tv remote receiver is ok) I suggest you to buy a new universal remote control.

You can use a hi-level to low-level adapter. Just remember, the Yamaha does not send power (wattage) to the sub, just signal. You need to use a subwoofer that has an amplifier either externally or built in.
as long as there is a speaker out from the receiver you should be ok just make sure polarity for spkr is right --remember you workng with AC current bad wire will cause fire==
