A mono amp usually can handle only two 4 ohm subs. You see when you hook up two subs in parallel it drops the ohms too 2 ohms and 3 in parellal drops it to 1 ohms overheating the amp and cause power failure. Unless you bought a Mono amp thats 1ohm stable. But still I've seen cheap 1 ohm stable amps not last long. Also possible your subs are fried too check them with a multimeter and measure each sub ohms.

Jl 1000.1 Bottoming out my sub at very low volume...i have a 1000d cross fire mono block that POUNDS my sub and doesnt bottom it out.. but when i hook up the JL i get to quarter volume and the sub starts...

Check The Settings On The Amp.... There Is Probably a Setting Turned All The Way To Max on it. Is There 2 Rca Cables Hooked to It ? Try Switching them around And Seeing if It Gets Better Or Un Plug one of them And See if It Gets Any Better, Would Definitely Check The Settings On The Amp First to See if That your Problem. Hope This Helps :-)

Power pyramid subs smoking i think the jl 1000/1 is tuned wrong..

If the sub is new, they need to be broken in.

All sub woofers need a break in period of about 5 to 6 hours at medium volume.
The reason is because the glue needs to be cured. This is done by the heat from working.

If you are giving it too much volume too soon, you are burning the glue.

Back off the subs and only play them at medium volume for about a week.

Jl 1000/1 cuts out

Hello, It sounds like you may have a problem with one of your subs. If this problem was not happening before that's what I would suspect. You need to check the ohms of both subs seperately, make sure you don't have a half blown sub. Second you need to test the voltage going into the amp while playing at a decent volume to see if there is a major drop in voltage. Also, check your ground. You'd be surprised at the many people who bring there cars to my shop with similar problems and turns out the ground was bad or loose. I would doubt there is something wrong internaly with your amp. The problem lies in the wiring or speakers. As you said it only started doing this after 3 or 4 months after it was installed. It's cutting off at high volumes cause it can't draw the power it needs at the higher volume, so make sure you check all your wiring good. Let me know what you find, I would like to be able to help you more if for some reason you can't figure it out. I own a shop and also do amplifire repair. Hope this helps.

What to do

well i don't know your budget, but if that's not really and issue, right now at best buy, alpine type E, 10" subs, peak is 750w and rms is 250w, each is 129.99. Alpine type R, 10" subs, peak is 1500w and rms is 500w, each is 199.99. These are the best subs i found at best buy. You could sell your current subwoofers and purchase those, and you'd save space and still get the lows you want. Goodluck

Jl audio 1000/1 problems

Hello l_miller36,

Depending on how much you paid for the amp on eBay, and how well you like the JL product, it may very well be worth the money to get it fixed. As for the wallet damage, you'll have to ask JL or one of their dealers. But, since the Slash2's routinely sell for over $1,000, I'd estimate the cost to be pretty high.

First, I'd send an email to JL Audio tech support and see if they have a "flat-rate" repair option or if they can give you an estimate of the repair costs. My second option would be to talk to a local car audio shop that does component level repairs. In the first case, you'd get exact replacement parts and whatever warranty JL gives on repairs. Not so with the local option, but it would most likely be less expensive.

Hope this helps, good luck.

Amp voltage

Well this is interesting, Let me start by saying if you have a 2 ohm load and your system is set for 4 ohms you are going to overdrive your load and burn up your amplifier, maybe not right away, but sooner or later it will fail due to electrical and thermal stress bought on by power dissipation issues.

Yes you can get 2000 watts out of your amps, but the correct way is to bridge your amplifiers if you can, and terminate them into the proper load.

Thank you,

2000 watt jl audio amp & car battery...

Make sure that you don't have any strands that would connect the remote lead to the constant +12 volts. Also make sure that your remote lead fromt the radio switches off when you shut the car off. If you don't have an aftermarket radio with a remote turn-on lead, tap into the ignition wire to the radio. Let me know what kind of car you have and I can point you in the right direction to get the right wire. Good luck.
