Hi michelle,

This is simply an option many modern front-loads come with which enables an owner to "lockout" the control panel from, say children or other persons one may not want operating the machine unattended.

To enable the function typically you will need to push and hold the button for several seconds ( usually 3 -5 seconds ) and the same to disable it afterward.

Hope this answers your question and if so please rate me accordingly. If not, please let me know how or if I can assist you further.

Thank you for visiting "fixya" today for your inquiry and good luck going forward.

Whirlpool front load washer model # WFW662OHCO SERIAL # C90951415 won't reset keeps displaying Loc on screen ?

The model number is probably WFW6620HC0. The "LOC" may mean that you have set the control lock by pressing and holding the extra rinse button on the control panel for three+ seconds. Try holding the button again. If that doesn't work, look on the control panel for the Control Lock label. It will be in a small font below a button or in the middle a line between two buttons that you need to press and hold simultaneously for 3+ seconds. (Note: if you press and hold for too long, the lock will toggle off and back on. A skeleton key symbol may also be displayed on the LCD panel when this lock is enabled.)

The manual for the WFW6620HC0 is available from Whirlpool on their support site: https://www.whirlpool.com/services/manuals.html . The current link to the manual is https://www.whirlpool.com/content/dam/global/documents/201809/use-and-care-w11156985-revA.pdf .

I hope this helps. The control lock feature is useful when you are cleaning the surface of the washer and to keep small children from starting a wash cycle with a pet or sibling in the machine.

How do i reset a duet whirlpool. GHW9400PL2

On the Whirlpool Duet washer, try pressing and holding the End of Cycle signal button (on the far right of the control panel) for 3+ seconds to toggle the Control Lock on/off. See the manual here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/193849/Whirlpool-Duet-Front-Load-Washer.html?page=10#manual and here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/193849/Whirlpool-Duet-Front-Load-Washer.html?page=12#manual . The small print about the Control Lock is almost readable (with good eyesight/correction) in the control panel closeup of the GHW9400PL here: https://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadison/GHW9400PL.html .

I hope this helps.

(When you turn off the washer, it will remember the last setting for the Control Lock. This ensures that the washer can't be accidentally started by a child or while you clean the control panel.)

My washer when I tried to start it where the time is for washing it said CL what does this mean?

CL means that the control lock (front panel or child lock) is active. You need to press and hold the key for 3 or more seconds.

What make and model washer do you have? Most will indicate which key does the child lock in small print on the key itself. However, some manufacturers use the Start key. A few have a dedicated Control Lock button.

If you provide your model, I'll check if I have the manual and tell you which key is the correct one for toggling the lock off for your specific washer.

I hope this helps.

Duet GHW9150P Front Load Washer: The control lock light is lit on my whirlpool duet...

This advise is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet front loader washers and dryers with a Control Lock problem.

This may or may not be an indication of a serious problem. In the majority of the cases, this is a simple operator error. Nearly all these model appliances have some sort of Control Lock feature on the front panel now. This is a designed safety feature that is used to prevent small children from manipulating the controls. The controls can be easily locked or unlocked by pressing and holding the following button on the front panel:

Whirlpool Duet Washer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.

Whirlpool Duet Dryer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.

Kenmore Elite Washer - Press and hold the DRAIN/SPIN button for 3 seconds.

Kenmore Elite Dryer - Press and hold the AUTO DRY LEVEL button for 3 seconds.

These instructions may not be all inclusive for all Kenmore and Whirlpool models, but they are the most common. Chances are, if you have a Control Lock feature, the instructions will be printed on the front panel adjacent to the button that is required to lock or unlock the controls.

NOTE: These instructions may also work for newer model Maytag, Hotpoint, Admiral and Fridgidaire model front loaders as well. Refer to your owner's manual or front panel for instructions pertaining to your sepcific model.

If the Control Lock feature will not lock or unlock the appliance, unplugging the unit for AT LEAST 30 minutes is recommended in order to reset the main control board. In many cases this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches.

Just bought a used duet washer...what does control lock mean...and how do we fix it?

The Control Lock is a safety feature that enables the consumer to lock the control panel to prevent small children from manipulating the controls and accidentally starting the appliance. This can usually be reset and does not require a technician.

With the lock on, the control panel is disabled and you cannot use any of the controls, except the button to unlock it. It can inadvertently be set following a power outage, leaning against the control panel, or pressing and holding the wrong button. This is usually not an indication of a malfunction.

If this is a Whirlpool manufactured front loader, the following link explains how to lock/unlock this feature:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608801-control_panel_lock

These instructions are also printed on the front panel of the appliance and in the owner's manual.

If this does not correct your problem, then you may have a more serious problem than a simple operator control button issue (such as an operator console problem or main control board issue). Please post back and let me know if you need further assistance.

What does control lock mean?

This means that the machine will not respond to any controls and will have to finish its current programme completely before it will respond to any operator controls again. It is very useful to stop anyone changing the programme mid cycle. It also means that if the power is cut or you have a brown out that the machine will just carryon where it left off and finish the programme.

To unlock the Control Locked feature:

Press and hold the End Of Cycle Signal button for 3 seconds to turn this feature off.

When the machine is running and Control Locked light is on, the machine can be stopped by pressing the Pause/Cancel button, but cannot be restarted until the control is unlocked.
