I have replaced the thermostat but doesnt seem to have made any difference. While replacing thermostat found frost/ice on evaporator (but only on back side, front of evporator is clear).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
NEWER T-49 s DO NOT HAVE ANY DEFROST HEATER OR TIMER OR CUTOFF'S All solutions involving repairs on these items are bogus. The defrost occurs when the compressor shuts down normally. During this time, since the fan never stops, it should circulate above freezing air around the coils and a slow defrost may occur. It is a poor system at best, and does not work well if the compressor runs a lot. MY erratic cooling was fixed by removing the copper sleeve and cold control probe from the evaporator(cold coil on top) Polish up the copper tube and the probe, reinsert and bend the copper sleeve very slightly so that it fits snuggly into the evaporator. Mine was very loose and not making good contact with the metal evaporator, giving erratic control of temperature.. Good Luck!!
I have had a freezing problem with this unit also. I restricted the air flow on one of the cooling fans in the top of the box and dialed down the thermostat. It now stays in the proper cooling zone. I used a paper plate to cover one of the fan holes and unpluged the one fan motor.
I would also inspect door gaskets to insure they are in good condition and sealing properly. hot air infiltration could keep a demand on the thermostat and cause it to run to long. also check the mounting of the thermostat sensing bulb, most of the true boxes use thermostats that sense the coil temp, not air. if it is not sensing the coil temp it will cause the thermostat to not function correctly.
Hi,
I also have the same problem on my both the coolers. I bought them used but they are just 3/4 years old and look very new. But it can not control the proper temperature. Sometimes it's freezing and sometimes hot. The thermostat seems to be ok. Where the defrost thermostat is located? Where can I buy one it is faulty.
Thank you
Sunil
Hi,

Thanks refritech,
After I replaced the thermostat, I spoke with a tech from True, He told me from my description that it sounded like it was working properly, he said when thermo is set to warmest setting it should cool down to 31-32 degrees, and when in defrost should warm up to about 40-41 degrees. I seems to be doing that now. However, occasionally the temp drops to 28 degrees. The only produce that freezes occasionally now are the lettuce and cukes. so I moved these to a smaller fridge. Not ideal, but can work with it. Im handy but not knowledgable enough to check the defrost timer or thermo... as I dont know where there are. lol I will try to find a schematic and go from there. thanks.
We are having the same problem, except ours is freezing everything,we changed out the thermostat acouple of months ago. Now it froze up again! We turned it to the lowest setting and the next morning it was reading over 80 degree farenheit. Turned power off then back on and it got cold again but is now freezing up again. Now the fan in the kitchen was off and ambient temperature in the kitchen was in the low 90 's.
