Acer 5050 I have 5050-5554 laptop with XP. 1 year ago I made partition an d installed UNIX SUSE 9. After I realized that computer works slower I tried to uninstall unix. Now I found that I have to recover my computer. However Drive E sees some DVDs with films but doesn't see my recovering DVDs (and CDs). How can I recover my Acer 5050 in this case? Thank you. 1. You should have a winXP bootable installation CD
2. You should enable boot from CD setting in BIOS
3. put your XP cd in to the cd reader
4. Startup the computer
5. Follow the instructions
Format the partitions or
completely drop and recreate partitions then formt

Boot your computer with winxp disk then follow the procedure.
Press enter for install new xp then you see partition delete all partition then create again then install xp in first partition try this 3 to 4 times so that error not comes .you can do it.

I would install XP 1st then Open suse or Ubuntu. When you install either of these linux OS's ensure you install to another partition other than the windows one. Both installation routines will allow you to format the drive to the linux ext2 format and automatically install a boot manager (usually GRUB) which will allow you to select the OS you wish to boot.

I got it to work by deleting all the partitions on my drive (I first loaded xp, loaded system commander 9, and used that to delete all the partitions.)

Then while booting from the recovery cd, holding down alt-f10, the recovery dialog said it was partitioning the drive. (I didn't see this before, even if I partitioned the drive like it came from the factory.)

Then the rest of the recovery worked.

1. make sure your laptop is set to startup from a cd
2. after laptop finds the bootinfo from the cd and asks you to press any key to start from cd, press any key and xp setup will start.
3. in xp setup your going to need to delete your vista partitions, preferably all partitions and then proseed to install xp into a new partition.

4. proseed with the windows setup follow the instructions and configure your settings as you wish.

Do you have or did you make the recovery installation optical media [dvd or cds]. If you have the option to make the recovery media - you should do it now - as you may need to reformat the hard drive.

you can set the partitions in f-disk on the start up disk of windows 98, reset partitions to 32, format c: drive, take out disk and put in windows 98 cd. and restart computer. your done. windows 98 cd will install. your up and running. please give me a fixya rateing. Thanks farren

if your currently able to surf the internet with your vista os id suggest downloading the drivers for windows xp from the manufacturer onto a usb storage device like a thumb drive or external hard drive(hdd).
after you have all the drivers you'll need have:
the windows xp disk.
1)before you restart the computer insert the windows xp disk into the cd-rom

2)resart the computer

3)when the computer starts to post press the appropriate hotkey to enter the bios(usually f1,f2 or delete key) it'll tell you on the splash screen.

4)check the boot order in the bios making sure the cdrom is the first boot device. if it is press f10 to save and let the computer boot.

5)on the upper left of the screen you'll see (boot from cd)press any key(hit a key quickly)
windows xp will then start loading on the computer.

6)windows will look for previous installations of operating systems and display them on the screen

7)click on the partition w/the current os (when you click the os will be highlighted)

8)xp will give you the choice to install delete or format the current partition

9)choose to delete the partition

after you delete the partition windows will show a matrix of the hard drive without partitions (RAW SPACE)

10)highlight the raw space
11)choose create
