I have a HP Laserjet 1012 desktop printer. Are there any windows XP 64 drivers that will allow this printer to work with a XP 64 system?

Welcome to FixYa!

HP Laserjet 1012 does not have a driver for XP 64bit.
HP also does not have driver for Windows 7 32bit and 64bit with this particular printer.
They are urging their consumers to upgrade the printer(s) to a compatible operating system.

TIP: If you are going to install this printer to a Windows 7 operating system, try to using the Vista drivers and install it using the compatibility mode feature of Windows 7.

Thank you for using FixYa!

Print jobs keep going to manual tray even though i'm sending plain paper 8.5x11 jobs at it windows xpp, newest drivers downloaded yesterday from hp no problems printing to other printers

You need to check the software you are printing from.

if you are using microsoft word for example. the page setup in microsoft word will take piority over the windows settings.

So if microsoft word page setup is set to use manual and your windows driver says to use tray 1. it will always use manual.

The other possible cause for this is in the printer's menu system defaults. but the laserjet 1012 does not have a menu system I believe.

HP Laserjet 1012 prints background programming, not screen.

Go to the HP website and make sure you have the latest drivers installed. You should be able to let the computer install the drivers automatically once you download them. Also download any other additional software that comes with the printer. Sometimes special print jobs rely on these extra programs.
