My Pentax K100D has suddenly stopped working. It hasn?t been bumped or dropped or anything. A few days ago I was still taking pictures, and then a day or two later when I tried it, it wouldn?t work. When you press the shutter release button, nothing happens. No autofocus, no picture is taken, nothing. The only thing is that you hear a fairly rapid clicking sound, perhaps like a gear wheel turning or something. I tried various settings, new batteries, a different lens, autofocus, manual focus, even a different SD card, but nothing makes any difference. The people at the local camera shop couldn?t do anything either. They just said I would have to take it to a camera repair shop. I?m not very impressed that an expensive camera bought in only August 2006 should give problems so soon.

Talking about two camera's my guess is you made a picture with a Pentax K100D and you put it on the memory card in a Sony dsc-hx1. In the manual the Sony tells what sizes of pictures it can display. None of the 4 sizes the Pentax K100D makes, is in that list. Perhaps you don't mean this, please let me know.
Hi, I assume that you are using Win.XP, - did you check; System Properties>Hardware>Device Manager Is there anything like yellow exclamation etc, especially on the USB section? - Is it BIOS USB function enabled? Maybe disabled by accidentally. - You said nothing working through USB, all ports are same? If this ocurred all of a sudden, than I think you have a software problem. I have a K100d, its been seven months now and ~6500 photo. My USB cables&fittings are fine, I always using USB port to transfer photos, no problem at all. I hope your problem will be solved in a short time. Sincerely -halotheracer-
Hi, Maybe you can try sensor cleaning mode; Go to Menu>Set-up>Sensor cleaning, press right than choose "Mirror Up", wait a moment than power off the camera. Maybe this can help. Regards. -halotheracer-
My camera with the dodgy flash is holidaying in Japan as they sent it to be fixed - not sure how old your camera is but I am trying to see if this is an issue that occurs with the camera model.... given that there are only two of us to date I am thinking that we may have just struck the jackpot :(
