Sony Optical Drive Optiarc CD-RW CRX880A Problem!

Sony Optical Drive Optiarc CD-RW CRX880A Still giving problem!

Having Windows XP Professional with SP 3 OS in my Acer Aspire 3002NLC Notebook.
And Sony “Optical Drive Optiarc CD-RW CRX880A” .
I have installed the relevant firmware downloading it form the URL http://www.sony-optiarc.us/en/support-service/downloads/fw_cd-writer-dv-series3.htm .
My system is using Nero StartSmart File Version 2.0.0.29 i.e. Nero Express 6 or Nero Vision Express 3 as my writing software,

HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM STILL APPEARS TO BE WITH THE SAID Sony Optical Drive Optiarc CD-RW CRX880A.
MANY BLANK CDs ARE GETTING DAMAGED ON WRITING WHILE THE WRITING SOFTWARE CONFIRMS ''WRITING IS SUCCESSFUL''
BUT IN REALITY THE SAID DRIVE CAN NOT OPEN THE FILES/FOLDERS IN THE WRITTEN CDs BUT AFTER OPENING IT (A WRITTEN CD) THE WAY A DIALOGBOX SHOWS AS IF STILL A BLANK CD IS THERE FOR WRITING!
MEANWHILE, THE 'REGEDIT' HAS BEEN TRIED BY DELETING THE UPPER AND LOWE FILES CONCERNED THERE.

SOMETIME VERY SMALL FILE LIKE 'FILE.txt' CAN BE WRITTEN WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM BUT IF A BIGGER VIDEO FILE IS WRITTEN ON IT (AFTER A MULTISESSION MODE) THEN MOST POSSIBILITY IS THAT THE WRITING WILL FAIL (THOUGH THE WRITING SOFTWARE WILL CONFIRM 'WRITTING IS SUCCESSFUL'')

I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE WRITING MARK ( A FAINT BURNING MARK USUALLY NOTICEABLE AFTER BURNING A CD ON THE WRITTING SIDE OF IT) IS NOT ATALL NOTICEABLE IN A WRITTEN CD BY MY SYSTEM, (SUCH BURN MARK IS NOTICEABLE WITH THE CDs WRITTEN BY OTHER COMPUTER SYSTEMS, )
BUT THAT DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN SUCH REFLECTION IS SO ONLY WITH THE PROBLEMATIC WRITTEN CDs BUT EVEN A GOOD CD (SUCCESSFULLY WRITEN WITH SAID OPTICAL DRIVE) CAN ALSO REFLECT THAT - AFTER SUCCESSFULLY BURNING A CD WITH THE SAID OPTICAL DISK DRIVE.

I DO NOT REALLY KNOW HOW LONG I SHALL HAVE TO STAY WITH THE MERCY OF MY OPTICAL DRIVE SAID AND TO ENABLE ME TO SUCCESSFULLY WRITE MOST OF THE BLANK CDs ! CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH A PROPER REMEDY?

First, I would try burning at a very slow speed to see if this helps. If it doesn't help and you think the burner is just worn out you can buy a USB burner for about $50

SOURCE: HP dvd740b does not detect blank CDs and DVDs

Hi,

i think you,ve hit the nail-on-the-head.
The laser has to power up highrer to write a DVD, or ocassionally have a dual laser. 1 for read/write CD. And 1 For Read/Write DVD.
Certain cd roms, only use CD- media. it,s probably worth checking which media is supported by the drive.
Also check the drives aren,t conflicting, on the same ide channel, sometimes swapping channels, ide primary/secondary can help, or swiitching Master/Slave/cable select jumpers on the drives Themselves.

My optiarc cd crx880a ata device is not working it is not reading any disc

Most probably your Sony optiarc cd crx880a could be defective. If warranty period is still valid, go back to your vendor for a warranty claims.

FYI - Optical drives never require a driver on Windows OS from Win95 up. Windows XP, Windows Vista and Win 7 both provide native (IDE)

Optiarc CD-RW CRX880A Reads CD/DVD, FAILS to write intermittently

To my knowledge, that is a firmware issue. Go to http://www.sony-optiarc.us/en/support-service/downloads/fw_cd-writer-dv-series3.htm and click the last link, which is the firmware download.zip for your updated firmware. Install that, and try again. If you have any problems, repost and i can try helping again.

Optiarc cd-rw crx880a ata device: This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Did you try to click "Troubleshoot" on the page that reported "cannot start" ?

Did you try to click on the device, and choose "uninstall" ?
Then, rebooting Windows should cause Windows to "find new hardware", and properly configure the DVD/CD drive.
