Tip & How-To about Canonical Ltd. Ubuntu

Ubuntu 10.04 networking stopped after running updates

I had problems with Ubuntu 10.04 after running updates, After a lot of playing about and hunting around on the net I found the best way of fixing this is as follows:

click on applications, a accessories, then select terminal

now type sudo apt-get remove network-manager

now type
sudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces

you will now be able to edit the file

add the following 4 lines

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp

now save the file and reboot your system.
You will now find your wireless and lan works

Can not update windows.

Try Dial-a-fix. Best solution to Windows Update problems I've found.

The interface is a little cryptic, but if you read the Wiki you can be up and running pretty quick. Works great.

Ubuntu Sound Problem

MerryAnn, it sounds like any time your CPU does heavy work, you hear sounds..kinda like a buzzing? I would say off hand you have an open input turned up in the mixer.
