My VAIO VGN-FZ340E laptop screen failed to keep regular 1280x800 resolution. It dropped down to 640x480 and shows various artifacts, vertical stripes and distortions. And this is the same even during booting or safe or other diagnostic mode. NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT failed to work and despite update it is impossible to even see it in Control Panel. Various software tests failed to repair graphics. NVIDIA Driver Helper Service Vers. 167.60 stops working during regular boot (Module nvapi.dll). Unfortunately Sony VAIO hardware diagnostics (originally shipped with former Vista OS) failed to work even from recovery DVDs as most those utilities had been stripped down during Windows 7 installation. I have thatWin 7 Ultimate on for several months without significant issues, but during my last week European trip NVIDIA crashed a few times (but quickly auto recovered). I reseted BIOS to its default settings but nothing significant happened, RAM tests went without issues. Vertical stripes and various distortions persist including that low res during any possible states. Any ideas what might have happened and is there any solution available?
