Hi,

Please try to access the router's configuration page by accessing 192.168.0.1 using a computer that is wired on the router.

Default admin user name:Admin
Default admin password:

Please update firmware:
Note:Please do not upgrade the firmware over wireless connection. Anyway you wont be able to do that now but for future reference. Please use the link on the bottom.

I am trying to add a password and network name to my wireless router. I have access to the internet, but it's an open connection called DLink. The router is a DIR 625.

Have you performed a hard reset? (you can see the manual here)
Do you have the latest firmware?

If no to either or both, try the hard reset; then upgrade firmware.

I have an issue with my Dlink DIR-625 wireless and cable modem

it isn't syncing up with your modem, try a hard reboot, disconect everything, even the cable, after 5 minutes , first screw the coax cable back to the modem, that will re establish the cable connection, plug everything back in, and if that pc light still is still doesn't work, the router may be bad, look on the Dlink site and download the latest firmware, as a last resort, but also reset the router first before trying anything, there is a reset button on the router. Sometimes certain routers don't work with certain modems, if you try the reset, then the hard reboot, and the firmware, you have covered all the bases

Go to http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DIR-625/DIR-625index.htm
and you will find all the info you need regarding port forwarding through your D-Link router.

The page is specific to the DIR-625 but just about any make/model is supported at http://portforward.com/

Is there any computer connected to the router with the Ethernet cable?
If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router with the cable.
Check the IP address on the computer. Open the router set up page.
Once you open the set up page, you will find the option to make it secured

You need to log into the router setup page, to do that connect a cable between your PC and the router, Then open internet explorer This is the default settings for that machine type into the address bar 192.168.0.1 now you will be presented with the login screen

Select Admin from the drop-down menu and then enter your password. Leave the password blank by default.

Now goto the wireless section where you can change the code Full details are shown in the Online manual available here http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=DIR-625&tab=3
