My husband is good with fixing things he is repairing my stand mixer, 5 qt and has all the screws out but can't get the gear box out. Is there a hidden pin or trick somewhere?

It looks like you may have two different problems. First, you must adjust the mixer speeds.
Second, if the motor runs at different speeds but the Planetary Assembly does not rotate, then
you may have a stripped Worm Gear Follower. The K5SS is very similar to the 5-qt. tilt-head Artisan Stand Mixer. You need to adjust the mixer speeds. instead of putting a gasket on tell him to take out all of the old grease out that is what has broken down and turning into oil causing a leak and if he can repace the seal around the agitator shaft replace the old grease with a high temp bearing grease or a good quality lithium grease
You can see that there are 5 screws holding the upper and lower gearcase together. They pinch the gasket number 26 together and prevent the oil and grease from leaking. Remove the chrome ring by prying gently around the ring. You will see the 5 screw heads. Tighten them and the leaking will stop.
If it still leaks then you may have to replace the fiber washers number 29 which will involve disassembling the lower gear case.
To the best of my knowledge that is a reduction drive / direct motor connection mixer. No belts just bearings and gears. It has been far too long and I honestly can not tell you how to remove the cover. I do remember that were screws under the chassis of the motor / gear section. Real bad case of long time no do... here. You might have to remove the drive head to access the top cover screws. Wish I could have been more of a help. Just in this case it is one of those it needs to be in front of me things.
