Appropriate software for tungsten e2 palmOne

I just 'inherited' a tungsten e2 palm One. i just purchased the docking kit [charger, usb cable, and cradle]. i am basically a 'newbie' in the area of hand-helds. when i connect my palmOne to my desktop vai usb cable, my pc does find the new hardware, but cannot find the proper software. [i get the '?' and 'palm handheld' under 'other devices' in my device manager.] i have found a couple of sites offering software dowmloads, [but i would appreciate if you could recommend the best, free site], but i am not certain if i am restricted to the palm OS software, or if i can use pocket pc software with my palmOne. i intend to use it as an address book, wireless portable [if possible]], gps, and most of the functions that are already programed on it- although, i hope that
my desktop gives me complete access and control over adding, editing, and deleting items. thank you. -david

ok, well i did find the 'palm.com' site, and the driver download that is supposed to support the usb connection. i followed the instructions, with one slight variation, that is i used 'winrar' to extract the file instead of winzip, but i don't think that should be an issue. i am still unable to successfully syncronize my palm with my desktop, and i did follow the directions, which instruct me to copy the extracted folder to a locaton, connect the palm, and choose that location when windows detects the new device. i keep getting 'windows cannot install this device' error. there is a forum page in the palm site that addresses the compatibility issue between the tungsten e2 and windows xp professional, but palm assures the reader that it is compatible.

If you said you have the software (desktop), your doing it backwards. Run the desktop software by going to my pc and running the disc. The software will then ask you to plug in your E2 so it can register it. It will then synch and your in business. Had E2 for a very long time. Can tell you things that guy can do that would surprize you. Have everything but unit now.

Both PalmOne E2 Units No Power

Your problem is more common than you think. Especially being a potential battery issue. Can you say a bad case from factory. Go to EBAY and order 2 more batteries. You are lucky they plug in.

My palmOne Tungsten-EZ When I turn of my palm it turns back on by itself. I can't get it to stay off.

The palm in question was purchased in 2005. It was exposed to rain just before it started the problem. The sales people at Staples (where I purchased the product ) said the battery usually lasts approx. 4 years. So I decided to buy a replacment one, With a Alluninum case to help to protect it from weather conditions.

Synchronizing my Tungsten E2 with the computer.

If you have not already done so, install the Palm Desktop software from your CD. (If you do not have a CD, you can download the Desktop software from palmone.com.)

Connect the USB cable to your PC and to your E2. (If you do not have a cable, you can probably find one on eBay.)

If the cable has a button, push it. If it does not, open the applications menu (the "House" button to the left of the graffiti area) and look for the app called "HotSync". Run the HotSync app, make sure that the Local/Modem choice (above the central hotsync icon) is on "Local" and the combo box below the icon says "Cradle/Cable". The tap the icon. If this is your first sync, you may have to answer a popup on your computer before it will proceed.

Tungsten E2 PDA battery

E2 has a great battery might not be it. Its not easyly replaceable like in some other models.

the battery can be replaced by a professional or by yourself.

The pda should work on charger? does it work while pluged in?
If it doesnt work while its pluged in theres something more seriour wrong with it.

You can try soft and hard reseting.

Instructions can be found in this pdf file http://www.palm.com/us/support/handbooks/tungstene2/en/maintain.pdf

If you cant open pdf files you need to find yourself pdf reader, google pdf reader and get one.

If soft or hardreset have any effect and the device still doesnt work even on charger then it has a hardware issue and I recommend contacting palm or the place where you bought the pda and findout about repairs and possible price, may be high.

good luck and if theres anything else let me know.

Installation

Got to the control panel, add/remove programs. Remove PalmOne if it appears there and try again.

You might want to download the latest version of the desktop from the PalmOne site.
