Trouble dowloading pictures

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

My camera says 'Connecting to PC' all the time when I turn it on even if it is not connected to PC. I think it has got confused as the last time I used the camera was to take photos off it and it may have...

Connect the camera to your PC. Turn it on. Wait till the PC 'acknowledges' the camera. Then disconnect it via 'remove USB-device safely'-function.

If this doesn't work. try resetting the camera with the reset button you'll find under the connections hatch.

Tom Tom Go 520 can not connect to PC.

I had the same problem with a 750.
I cured it (accidentally I must add) by inserting a memory card.
I guess the last time I connected and disconnected the 750 it had a memory card in and without one inserted it would not recognise the device.
Strange reason but worked for me.

Unable to use play/edit mode of DCR-HC30

I had a similar problem. I was attempting to transfer video from the HC30 to my Windows PC via the USB cable. Unfortunately, the software supplied with the device is not compatible with Vista. Since then, whenever I switch the mode to PlayEdit the screen displayed "USB MODE disconnect the USB cable before...".
I called Sony and they had me try several reset options without success. Then they said they I could send it in for a flat fee of $171.00 plus shipping to troubleshoot; parts would be extra. The camera is only worth 150 bucks.
My solution:
All devices that retain information such as date and time have a back-up battery, so I wen online and purchased a DCR- HC30 repair manual for 8 bucks. I found that the MS-200 board under the tape loading door hs just such a battery (although it is soldered in place and cannot be removed).
Following the dissambley instructions, I dismaltled the camcorder and disconnected the flexible board that links the MS-200 board to the main processing board, then reconnected it after 5 minutes.
I then reassembled the device and to my surprise, it functions normally now without displaying the USB error.

Here is a link to Tradebit, the site that sold me the repair manual:

IXUS 80 can you help...photos won't download.."COMMUNICATION ERROR"

This can be due to various reasons
1)The driver is corrupted: The camera's drivermay be corrupted. Uninstall the driver and any software and then connect the camera to the PC and then re-install the software.
OR
2)The USB cable might be faulty. Remove the memory card from the cam and try using a USB card reader(You can get one for 5$) and see if works. If it does may be then its time to buy a new USB cable for your cam.
3)Last but not least the cam's firware may been corrupted. Its pretty easy to flash the firmware so we can try it. Let me know if the above solutions worked or not so that we can try the firmware update

Will Not Upload Images into the Computer

I assume your PC has no 'multimedia' slot that you can plug the SD Card into ????

I suggest you buy a USB SD Card Reader .. this makes a lot more sense that using the (stupid, slow, brain-dead) software that comes with most Cameras ..

RE: Batteries. Rechargeable batteries don't last for ever.... if they are more than about a year old they can self -discharge .. however if you have tried new Batteries I would guess the Camera has a fault ...
