How do I re-program a phone (extension 249)to match up to an existing voicemailbox (extension 229) I don't want to change to 249 because person's contacts have called them for long time at extension 229
It might be easier to create a new mailbox 229 and give mailbox 249 to extension 249.It might be easier to create a new mailbox 229 and give mailbox 249 to extension 249.

Before voice mail will answer, the phone has to be programmed to forward to the voice mail pilot number on a busy and no-answer condition. Example, if your voice mail system is on extn 555 then program the phone to roll over busy/no answer to ext 555. (there will need to be a companion mailbox on the voice mail system that matches your extension). Hope this helps.
Press and hold the number 1 key from your mobile phone to access voicemail or you can call your network service provider to get your voicemailbox number. Once you have it, just dial it like a regular phone number.
Assuming you are using the Embedded Voicemail... Dial the Voicemail access code (same number you dial from your phone). When prompted to enter the other phone's password, dial *. You will be prompted to enter your mailbox number, followed by your passcode.
The system has a built-in feature called "Set Relocation", which will
allow you to move your phone to another active telephone jack in your
office and the extension number, voicemail box, and all features will
stay with your phone.
Have your system administrator turn on Set Relocation, or check your
Norstar administration manual for programming details. Or, you
can call your telecom service company and have them send a technician.
When it says "vacant" that means that no phone is plugged into that extension port. But also, the person's extension number isn't always the voicemailbox number.
Are the mailboxes set up?? What happens is a call goes to an extension, there is one program set to tell the system that if a call rings 4 times, go here(voicemail). Once it goes there, the voicemail system sees that there is or is not a mailbox matching that extension. If there is, the call goes to voicemail, if not, it transfers to the operator.
OR.....Does your system display the correct time? Its possible that the phone system lost its programming, and doesnt know where the voicemail is.
Both might need a professional tech on site...a bit too hard to help over a forum.
Since you did not mension the phone system type I am assuming it is a Digital like the KX-TD500. You can transfer direct to voicemail if you have a VT ( Voicemail Transfer ) button on your phone. When you want to transfer the party you are talking to, press VT and dial the extension/mailbox number you wish to transfer the call to and hang up to complete the transfer. If you do not have a VT key you can program one of your flexable buttons as a VT key by pressing your PROGRAM button, dial 9 9, press the button to be programmed, dial 8 and the voicemail extension number, press AUTO DIAL/STORE and then press PROGRAM to exit station programming. Good Luck. ....Mike
Call your service provider and ask them to reset your voicemail. You will have to set up your mailbox and passcode again, but this should resolve it. If the phone won't call your voicemail, let me know the make and model of the phone and I can tell you how to re-program your voicemailbox #.
The night key on the phone only changes the location the trunks or lines ring. The voicemail should be set up with 990 as an " Introduction ", Thank you for calling ABC Company and 991 is the " Instructions ", If you know your party's extension please enter it now. The mail boxes should match the extensions and ring the phone. you need to verify the extension field in each mailbox to make sure they match. Do you have access to the voicemail programming ?
You need to build the mailbox in f983

Add or Change.
When you get to mailbox enter the extension # of the new telephone.
When you get to extension number-enter the same extension number.
It might be easier to create a new mailbox 229 and give mailbox 249 to extension 249.
