When that saw kicks back, it hits your arm, and the brakes go on. To turn them off, push the brake forward. It will release. Hope this helps.

I got that one wrong, you don't push it, you pull it back, hard, to lock it back in place with the brake off. Sorry about that.

SOURCE: 455 rancher chainsaw does not pump oil to the chain

If you look under the machine by the chain you'll see a flat head screw (next to the sprocket) which controls the bar and chain oil flow . Try to turn the screw and check if there's any oil flow to the chain . If not you will need to replace the oil pump (part # 537 10 55-02 which will cost you about $35.00) Hope this help

What is the gas / oil ratio mixture for husqvarna 455 rancher model ?

50:1 that's 2.6 ounces of 2-stroke oil (preferably with fuel stabilizer) to one gallon of gas. I recommend using 89 octane gasoline for all small engines. It has little or no ethanol in it, as opposed to the 10% typical in 87 or 86 octane fuel. This will prevent a lot of fuel issues, especially if you are not using the tool daily or at least weekly.

Husq 455 rancher chain saw. the chain locking spring in the cover is in the lock position and will not mount on the saw. how do i release the spring tension?

you should be able to release it with a flat screwdriver. you should see something that looks like a wheel where the chain brake locks to the brake handle when you put the cover back on. you should be able to twist that wheel and unlock it that way.

I have a husqvarna 455 rancher. the chain brake is locked! how can i fix this?

Remove the side cover to access the brake. Look for bent or broken components or maybe just sawdust is blocking the action. Good luck!

Cutting a log with 455 rancher chain locked up took cover off replaced chain ,chain spins with cover off put cover on chain is locked up again husqvarna

It sounds like the chain is too tight. Loosen up the tension on the chain by turning the tensioning screw located on the end of the saw where the bar goes out.

Husqvarna - IPL, 455 Rancher/ 460, 2006-02, Chain Saw (example - may not be your saw):
http://weborder.husqvarna.com/order_static/doc/usa/2006/I06000/I0601076.pdf
See Detail A, pn 503 89 08-02. You can use a Crescent Wrench on one of the ears (left end) to reset it. With the cover positioned with pn 503 89 08-02 in the upper left rotate it CW until it nests, to reset it.

This works quite well:
Reset Chain Brake by Dolfoff
Please follow this link, http://www.fixya.com/support/t3102817-re_install_side_cover_after_chain
Cursor down to “Best Solution”, while there click the “Was this helpful? [Yes]” button
If you do not have a vise a large C clamp to a work surface might work, you may still need a block or two of wood.

You can download the IPL for you saw here:

I will wager you will NEVER again remove the cover with the brake set. Me either! Good Luck. HTH

How do you get the cluch cover back over the cluch on a 455 chain saw?

sounds like you removed it with the brake on?
Start by removing the bar and chain, then put the cover on and tighten the nots only hand tight. then push the cover in at the point where it connects to the brake handle, then pull the handke back with your left hand while holding it in, That will reset the brake. Then reinstall the bar and chain, and your good to go.

How do you reset the chain brake?

You have to pull it back as if it were still on the saw until it clicks. I may be hard, but that is what you have to do.
