You need engine oil, usually 20 W 50, and primary case oil, 50 weight.
Depends on your Climate. Cold, you can use thinner oil.
You can buy from a Harley Dealer, Genuine brand Harley Davidson Oil.

you can put the screaming eagle syn3 full synthetic 20/50 in your engine,trans,and primary

35° Before Top Dead Center.

I would guess stale gasoline or fuel. Try fresh fuel in the tank. If this doesn't clear the problem, you could need to have your carburetor or fuel injection system cleaned. I'm not even sure if they put fuel injection on Sportsters since I don't work on fuel injected bikes. I mostly work on the older bikes like Panheads, Shovelheads, Evos. Not too many Sportsters but have worked on a lot of Ironhead Sportsters. Try the fuel first. It's a cheap fix. Hope it works for you. Good luck with the knee replacement. My wife had one knee replaced and it works great.

make sure air intake is clean (new filter) and all air bleeds in carb. are not pluged

check the jets in your carb

The only idea that i can come up with is that you dont have a good ground..or the guage was bad when you bought it..i hope this..Keith

Not unless you have/buy a Screaming Eagle or aftermarket ignition module. What makes you think the timing needs adjusted? It's all computer controlled.
