Alpine CHM-S620 6 Disc CD Changer Components

I recently bought a 1989 Ford Bronco. The in dash radio had been stolen from it a few weeks earlier, Under the back seat was a Alpine CHM-S620 6- Disc CD Changer and in the overhead console a CHM-S655RF Control/Select unit. The wiring leading to the dasboard on both devices has been cut however the CD Changer does unplug from the existing wire. Can you tell me what device would have been installed with these 2 Alpine devices? And possibly what kind of connections or wires I may need to restore the system. Thankyou , Keith D

Is the FM modulator unit still present?

  • Anonymous Apr 16, 2010

I had one of these fitted to my 99 ford falcon when I bought it in 2000. The changer, the head unit and the antenna all plug into an FM modulator (about double the size of a packet of smokes) that then has a lead that plugs into the car stereo. If the FM modulator is there then you have all the parts, you may just need to replace a couple of DIN leads and the car stereo of course. Check my previous post for the link to the installation manual.

Sounds like the changer was plugged into the antenna jack of the radio. this means that you can run it through any radio simply by sending a signal to a preset station on the radio and listening to it through tuner. the control unit ran the changer itself. you may be able to obtain replacement cables from pacparts.com

Can a CHM-S601 hook up to a 1997 ford F-150?

It won't work if the radio doesn't have a cd changer input. The radio/receiver has to have been designed/programmed to interface with the changer since that is what the changer is controlled through.

Well your changer has seen better days, but not dead yet. It can be repaired, but it's gonna cost ya. There are pro's, and con's in the debate between repairing, and buying new, but that's for you to decide.

Alpine makes some of the best, and longest lasting product's in the car audio industry, so getting it repaired isn't a bad idea, but the cost of changers has come down ALOT in the last 6 years so it may not be any cheaper to get it fixed. If you like the Alpine brand, then fix the one ya have, because Alpine no longer manufactures CD changers.
