Freezer motor running nonstop

My side by side refrigerator/freezer is about 6 years old. The freezer recently has been running nonstop and making an annoying sound a little like a far-off train. It's definitely the freezer part because when I turn it off manually the noise stops.
It's a GE Model GSS251FPD WW

Behind the back panel you will find the freezer fan motor. unplug and take everything out. take the back panel off and find the fan. stick something in the blade like a bannana or whatever (no rags or paper towels though) just something to jam the blade (its plastic so dont break it) replug. remove whatever you put to jam the blade and if you hear the sound then you know for sure it is the fan. got to replace fan if you want the noise to stop
if it is not the fan let me know
hope this helped

I have a GE side by side freezer/refrigerator. The

When you say "The items in the freezer are cold with some ice on them. I have tried emptying the ice tray, but that does not help." Is there literally ice from the ice bucket dripping on the food and refreezing, or is there a layer of frost on the food? the noise you are hearing is most likely due to the evaporator fan motor running at alternating low and high speeds. This is a variable speed motor, but there could be quite a few reasons why the motor is not rotating at regulated speeds. the fan motor itself, a faulty thermistor, you could also have an issue with your main control board, or least of all a wiring issue.
You would be wise to have it inspected by a reliable refrigerator repair service, to at least determine what the problem is for certain.

Freezer running all the time

You need to check the Condenser coils, these are copper coils of tubing usually located on the back of the unit near the ground. They need to be free of all dust and grease to work at maximum efficiency and it is recommended to clean them every 6 to 10 months. If they are or have recently been cleaned then make sure the inside fan (if there is one) isn't being blocked by anything and make sure there is adequate airflow throughout the refrigerator. Also you need to make sure the copper coils behind the fan aren't freezing up either. If they are then there is probably a problem with the defrost element. The condensate drain may also be the cause of the problem. To find the condensate drain, remove the panel from where the cold air is coming out and there should be a tube or a hose that allows the condensate to drain out.
If none of these seem to be the problem then you may have a refrigerant leak and you need a certified technician to take a look at it.

Freezer/refrigerator

Refrigerators with an evaporator (called a humid plate on this type of refrigerator) in the refrigerator section are called a semi-automatic defrost. This means that the freezer section occasionally needs defrosting but the refrigerator section defrosts by a means called "heat leakage defrost". How it should work....
the cold control, (the electrical device under the dial), leaves the compressor off for long enough for the plate to melt off each cycle.
If yours is not melting off perhaps you have a faulty control or you have it set too high. hope this help

How old is your Freezer ?
Make and Model
This can be anyone of a host of problems,
1. Thermostat bad
2.Freon coolant low
3. Coolant leak.
4.Are the coils on the bottom of the freezer behind the grille or in the rear of the box?
These are the narrow black tubes that run parallel to each other, back and forth.
They carry the coolant to and from the compressor!
If they are under the freezer, then they may be covered with years of dust and lint and in need of a refrigerator brush down there to gently clean the stuff out!
Air needs to pass over them as the fan sucks it in through the front grille to cool them off.
The brush is $8-$10 at the hard ware store.
I hope my suggestions help.
Let me know how it goes.
Bless You Huuum

Below is an article I read about these things

Repair or replace?

When to pull the plug on your old refrigerator and or freezer

It nearly always makes sense to undertake simple do-it-yourself repairs,
such as replacing a gasket on a refrigerator or a freezer.

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your refrigerator,
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

Follow these guidelines:

When a repair makes sense.

If your refrigerator is under warranty or less than four years old (three years for top-freezers),
paying for a repair makes sense.
Note that refrigerators under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your refrigerator is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models are quieter and have added features.
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new refrigerator.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive top-freezer refrigerator
six or more years old or a bottom-freezer or side-by-side eight or more years old.

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of a refrigerator you replace is likely to end up in a landfill.

Changing Freezers

If your products are already in the frozen state the answer is yes, you can make an immediate transfer. Normally a couple of hours run to allow the temperatures to stabilize is sufficient. The cool down run time also insures the the unit is functioning properly. If you plug it in and transfer the products right away make frequent checks to insure proper operation.
