If the standby light blinks 6 times it has a bad backlite board (the most common with that set) other than that i will need to know how many times in a row it blinks. thanks....techman
Sony kdl40v2500 power light goes on....the screen gets a little lighter but no picture or sound...no blinking lights

I have this problem too with my 32 inch Digital LCD TV.

turn tv on picture comes up 2to3 seconds later tv blacks out then stand by red light flashes 4 times in a row repeatedly..can not turn on or off when stand by light starts flashing but before tv blacks out you can turn tv on and off repeatedly and picture and sound work.You have to unplug power cord for 30 seconds after stand by light comes on to get tv to turn on.

Most likely this is caused by a defective main board. Changing the main board will fix the issue about 95% of the time.
To be absolutely sure, the voltages need to be checked on the power supply. If they are not the values listed in the service manual, then you should replace the power supply instead (accounts for the other 5% of the time).
B+ over current protection (OCP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of any of the circuits.

the power light never flash. the standby light is the only one thats flash. when standby light is flashing the power light is off.
the standby light flash 3 times then goes off for a second and then flash 3 time and keeps repeating this over and over.
