That's normal.

The Auto Muting mode mutes the audio output of the tuner if the station is not sufficciently strong to be accurately tuned. Otherwise you would hear all that interstation hash noise.

Press the FM Mode button to change it to Mono if you want to manually tune a hard-to-reach station. It will be in Mono.

Page 26:

AUTO MUTING
Normally select this.
When a program is broadcast in stereo, you will hear stereo sound; when in monaural, you will hear monaural sound.
This mode is also useful to suppress static noise between stations. The AUTO MUTING indicator lights up on the display.

Jvc car radio won't mute on incoming calls

I think the only hope you may have is the radio has an auto signal select in the menu somewhere. You can't use the mute wire as that will mute the AUX as well.

Receiver comes on but have no sound tried the solution; but it still didn't work. What I am seeing is, in the upper left hand corner of the window in small writing says "mute auto" which is...

Mute Auto is for FM only. It mutes interstation hiss while tuning. Look for some other indicator that might reveal why the signal path is failing. Tape?

Have you tried the basics? Speaker test? FM only?

When i put the fm radio it display auto muting and doesnt have sound, this only happens with the radio because the dvd sounds ok

"Auto Muting" in the context of FM means the output will be muted if the signal is so weak it would result in mostly noise anyway. Interstation radio noise can be annoying and dangerous at high volumes.

I tried restoring the sound by pressing Muting on master volume. Auto Muting still appears on the display and I can't restore the sound.

"Auto Muting" is for FM reception only and means it will mute the FM audio unless the signal is strong enough to provide decent audio.

Re-evaluate your symptom and corrective actions for relevancy.

Everything works fine on the unit no problem until

3. If your Nuvi has a FM transmitter, is it selected to "FM" or "Speaker"? The "FM" setting will mute the internal speaker. Setting it to "Speaker" will send sound to the speaker.

if this side of it works then the FM transmitter is faulty

Check that the sound has not been MUTED

plug the earphone into the socket to see if any sound is heard. The socket is also a switch that takes sound from internal speaker to ephone and reverse.
If no sound is hear in either FM or normal mode your unit is faulty and needs repair

No sound on coming out of speakers and theres no wires touching everything looks like it works fine

Make sure you didn't accidentally hit the mute button.
You should always test sound with a CD, testing sound via AM/FM will produce interference and almost no sound when between stations, also don't to forget to connect the antenna lead.

Check that the speakers are wired correctly.
Check that the sound controls are adjusted properly, i.e. Balance, Fade etc.

Good luck...

No Sound for AM/FM Radio

Ensure that the antenna is still attached. It will auto-mute if no signal is attainable.
