The numeric keypad functions like the numeric keypad on an external keyboard. Each key on the
keypad has multiple functions. The keypad numbers and symbols are marked in blue on the right of
the keypad keys. To type a number or symbol, press <Fn> and the desired key after enabling the
keypad.
• To enable the keypad, press <Num Lk>. The light indicates that the keypad is active.
• To disable the keypad, press <Num Lk> again.

Yes, what sent was directly out of the manual, I am sorry from your original question I didn’t understand your problem, and most people don’t take the time to read the manual.
Now I will try to answer the real question. It depends in what program you are trying to use the numeric keypad to input data with. For any given program the “keypad” characters operate exactly like the numeric keys located across the top row of the keyboard. The advantage of the numeric keypad is once you get used to it you input long lists of figures quicker with out as much movement of you hand.
Try this;
Open the calculator, if the number lock light is not on, turn on number lock and try the keys. To “Total” the input you can use the = or either of the enter keys.
If you have a word processor open all that will happen is what is printed on the keys. No mathematical functions will be accomplished. If you are using a spread sheet like Excel the math works differently. You can not just use the mathematical functions have to be put in a “formula.” If you are using a accounting program like Quicken the mathematical functions might work, you will have to try them with whatever program you are using.
I hope this helps more and if it does please let it reflect in the ratting.

If you are referring to the Number keypad.
Tap the "Num lock" key and you will see a light flashing.
Make sure the light is on when you stop.
Now try the keypad.

This info is given in the User Guide.
What I don't know is what window I should be in and what key I should hit to perform the arithmetic operation. Do I use the = sign? Where will the answer be displayed?

I was reading the "business news" and I saw the U.S. gas price
was at $3.28 gal. I wanted to convert this to liters; that is, I wanted to divide $3.28 by 3.7854 (number of liters in aU.S. gallon). What I wanted was I quickest way to do this.
3.28 / 3.7854 = ?

I guess the easiest/fastest way is to use Google.
