One of the reasons for motor not draining during normal cycle is the check valve is stuck. It is meant to return to normal during drain cycle but close during wash. I think the cancel is resetting it and letting water out.

https://youtu.be/SIFas6dI2OE This is a video for a Bosch not draining that kind of shows you the dishwashers mechanics. Might help. Or give you an idea of how to do figure it out yourself. There are also many videos about dishwashers not draining that might help. Let me know how it works out :)
There is a float under the machine that tells the pump to shut off. If the float is stuck or bad, the machine will keep draining. I am including a web site that might help. Bosch Dishwasher That Will Not Stop Draining Hunker
remove the bottom plate of the dishwasher and the bottom pan is revealed. reason the drain pump is running will be that this pan has water in it ie you have a leak. mop out the water and dishwasher will work - switch off mains when you do this
I believe you, but did you check the nipple on the drain where the hose connects?
My sink drained OK, and when I took the dishwasher hose loose from the sinkdrain it drained great into a bucket.
When I stuck a screwdriver down where the drainhose connects to the sinkdrain, I felt all kinds of resistance. Its now cleaned out and the dishwasher drains again.
Hope this is your problem otherwise you may need a new pump.
This is generally because of a stuck diverter solenoid. The water goes to the pump and then is either sent to the wash arms or the drain. Also, check the drain.
If the drain pump is working, and there is no problem in there, then the problem is usually because the water level switch activated by the floating sensor is stuck.
You probably need to have the water level switch replaced.
