CANON MP830 all in one is sayin" the type of printhead is incorrectn Install the correct Printhead."

My printer has been working fine, today when I went to print I get the following error, "The Type of Printhead is Incorrect, Install the correct Printhead"
I have not replaced anything, it is the factory original printhead, roughly 6-8 months old. Reset does not help.

Please help, what do I do?!

Open the cover, take out all five print cartridges and then lift the lever on the left of the print head and remove print head. Wait 30 secs and replace print head and then the five cartridges. It should work.

I've had my Canon 3-in-1 mp830 for awhile now...this is the first time I received the error msg "The type of print head is incorrect, please install the right print head". I tried what others said to do on this page. It didnt help so I guess I may have to replace the print head. My mom has an older model and went thru the same thing...except replacin the print head didnt work either so she just bought a whole new 3-in-1

I too have the same problem but have tried the fixes and it still does not work or remove the message. Where can I purchase a new printer head?

  • logmgre Apr 11, 2009

This is what the printhead looks like. The beige piece on the back may be the same size or smaller. You can order these from several web sites just type in "MP 830 Printhead" in the search block and the web sites will come up.

Hi follow the instructions as above...
ie Remove inks and print head...

But instead...
Whilst Canon print head is out...

Use cotton wool and alcohol and clean electrical contacts on back of print head and where they make contact inside printer.

Then install print head and inks and test.

If it does not work you may need to replace print head.
Hope it helps!
Good Luck!

Yes, tinteiros, this worked for me -- a Q tip and a little alcohol on the contacts and the ink ports made an immediate difference

YES!!! I probably used a dozen or more Q-tips, but it was worth it.

I flooded" the print head with alcohol and then turned and softly whacked it on a paper towel in my hand to let the waste come out faster and be absorbed.

When you say flooded, do you mean you poured the alcohol through the print head where the nozzles receive the ink? Mine says wrong printhead. Would your solution still work for me?

Error 5200 on start up of Cannon MP830 printer

Error 5200 on the MP830 is for a printhead temperature warning. The Canon service manual suggests two causes of action. Firstly replace the printhead or secondly the logic board. Printhead can be replaced at a cost (Part number QY6-0061-010 about £50) but if you know someone with the same model try their printhead first because it might be the logic board.

Thanks

Incorrect printhead

It just means that the printhead is defective, All of the Canon machines say that when the printhead goes out.

The type of print head is incorrect. Install the correct...

It's highly likely that one of the contacts that sit in the printhead carriage (the bit that holds the printhead) is either soiled, bent or broken. It's also possible that the back of the printhead itself is soiled or shorting out due to ink residue or moisture.

I'd recommend cleaning the contacts on the back of the printhead and just check over the contacts in the carriage unit to see if there's anything obvious.

If that still doesn't work I would strongly recommend getting a new printhead (in the USA - Canon sell them the cheapest) and install that.

Unfortunately there's been a high reported instance of faulty printheads blowing printers in any printer they are installed in. (Had it happen to me with one printhead = 2 dead printers) so it's not worth taking the risk.

Hope that helps.

My Canon PIXMA MP830 all-in-one is saying "the type of printhead is incorrect, install the correct printhead."

The cartrige is what holds the ink, the printhead is the device that puts the ink onto the paper.

So if your out of ink, then you need a new cartridge, if you have a new cartridge and you are having issues printing good quality, then you may need a new printhead.

you can get the ink here: http://printerinkcartridgesearch.printcountry.com/canon-pixma-mp830-ink-cartridges.htm

printhead is about 49.95

Error: The type of Printhead is incorrect, Install the correct printhead.

Ok i know this is kinda old, but i found a solution.

First to those people to state I found a solution from hp, cannon etc etc and not give out the direct link, or instructions, then whats the point fing posting????

This error happens when you install an oem cartridge onto your system. Or havent used it in a while, so the machine is somehow misfigured.

This solution is for canon mp800, simply switch off printer. HOLD stop/reset and press and HOLD on/off button. release stop/reset. Now press stop.reset twice. then release on/off button, press stop/reset 4 times, wait 20 seconds, press on/off button twice.

switch machine back on and the printer should find the cartridges.

This method maybe the same for your mp*** if not google RESET CANON PRINTER MP*** and you'll find the correct buttons to press.

here's a printer on reseting a bunch of canon printers http://tricks-collections.com/reset-printer-canon-mp140-mp160-mp180-mp210-mp220-mp460-mp470-mp500-mp510-mp530-mp600-mp610-mp800-mp820-mp810-mp830-mp960-mp970/

good luck.. and FU canon for adding you scamming chips into cartridges.
