The USB connector inside the Navigon 7100 is

From what I've been reading, Navigon is pulling, or has pulled out of the US. They claim to still support map updates if you purchased a subscription but to spend $ on it now would be risky in my opinion

The battery can be replaced but it will require you to remove the old one and find a matching voltage and sized battery on ebay. you will have to change the connector to the one off the original battery pack.
It has been a while since i have done one of this model but it can be done.

I had the same problem and this fixed it: Connect the navigon to your computer and go into the files directory and create 3 new empty folders, as follows: (You may want to back up your navigon 1st) After i created these empty folders, I was able to go into settings and turn Stree names on

Create these empty folders within MN6\sound folder.

Activation cord is in the freshmaps activation card that comes with purchas of device.It is on the back of the card remove plastc with nail and you will get 15 digits number in 3block with 5 digits each.

use internet exporer as web and don't use firefox or the other.

That is typical of navigon. Based on Consumer Reports, it is THE slowest GPS to sync and recalculate...on the market.. Up to 5 minutes on some tests....

The problem lies with the fact that a standard mini usb pin-out has + voltage on pin 1 and ground on pin 5. The navigon is programmed to recognize this as a computer. The navigon charger however has + voltage on pin 4 and ground on pin 5. The reason for navigon doing this as opposed to following the standard pin-out is due to the unit requiring a stronger power supply to charge the battery. USB current output on a computer does not have the capacity to do this. As a consequence, you will have to find a charger that has the right pin-out for this device ( + on pin 4 and - on pin 5 ). The tough thing is, there is no way to tell one from the other, they look identical. However, I have found that chargers with a capacity of 1000 ma or greater are pinned-out like above ( + on pin 4 and - on pin 5 ). Other than using a multimeter to verify the pins, the only thing to do, would be to plug it in and see if it works. Hope this helps.

If your useing Windows XP or Vista,drivers arn't needed..Windows "sees" the gps unit as another drive.

If you want to use the logbook , the files are in excel format.

the owners manual shows where the files are stoerd on the memory card!!
