Sky box green light on permanent

Sounds as if the software is corrupt. Try a forced software update...

1) Switch the digibox off at the mains power, so no lights are displayed on the unit
2) Press and hold the BACK UP button on the digibox (not the remote control)
3) Whilst holding, switch the digibox back on at the mains power so the red standby light is displayed
4) Wait approximate. 10-20 seconds for the remaining 3 lights to display, at which point you can release the BACK UP button
5) Allow the digibox to download the latest software, which can take 10 minutes before returning to standby
6) Leave 60 seconds then power up as usual

A software update/refresh will leave your recordings intact. You won't lose anything.

If this doesn't solve your problem, then the next step is more drastic. It's a Full System Reset and Planner Rebuild. Be advised though: Your recordings are at risk!

1) Switch your digibox on
2) In sequence, press on your remote 'SERVICES > 4 > 0 > 1 > SELECT' (this will access the hidden menu)
3) Select the relevant option (usually the bottom two) and follow the on-screen prompts (note that it's likely your digibox will reboot between processes)
Applies to Sky+HD Digiboxes only, running latest EPG
1) Press Services on your remote control. 'Options' in the Top Menu will be highlighted in orange.
2) Press the Right arrow once to highlight 'Settings' in the Top Menu.
3) Now press the Down arrow once to highlight the 'settings' tab in the Middle Menu.
4) Press 0, 0,1, Select on your remote in quick succession. The 'Setup' tab will then be highlighted within a hidden menu.
5) Select the relevant option and follow the on-screen prompts (note that its likely your digibox will reboot between processes)
Sky Digibox Planner Rebuild / Full System Reset (if stuck in standby)
Applies to Sky+ and Sky+HD Digiboxes only

Same as above, but applies if your digibox is stuck in standby and you cannot get to the hidden menu:

1) Switch the digibox off at the mains power, so no lights are displayed on the unit
2) Press and hold the 'right and left arrow' buttons on the digibox (not the remote control)
3) Whilst holding, switch the digibox back on at the mains power so the red standby light is displayed
4) Wait approximate. 30 seconds for the blue Sky+ ring of lights to display, at which point you can release the 'right and left arrow' buttons
5) Press 'SELECT' on the digibox (not the remote control)
6) Now the system will format the hard drive, the blue Sky+ ring of lights should spin backwards
7) Allow the system to format, which can take 10 minutes before returning to standby
8) Try to power up!

Recording from sky planner to dvd

Yep all you will need is a DVD recorder Philips do a good low cost version DVDR 3380 and a Philips DVD+RW ( this is the type that you don't need to finalize before you can use it in your PC)

All you have to do is make a connectiion to the video out of the Sky box using the suitable connection normally a SCART lead in to the EXT1 or EXT2 of your DVD recorder.

Play the Sky program in your planner and hit record don't forget to select the time you require 1 (HQ) 2,4 or 6 (SLP) hours. It will take as long as the program take to run to record it.

The best way to get the DVD-Video into your PC is to use the excellent TMPGEnc v4.0 Xpress from Pegasys use the Souce Video Wizard.

bb4039e.jpg

Then select the DVD-VR button this will read in the DVD content and then allow you to edit it and re-encode to almost any format.

If you select over 4 hours or recording most DVD standalone recorders will revert to Half D1 this equates to 360x576 instead of the Full D1 resolution of 720x576 (standard PAL for DVD-Video) you will need to use this filter to convert the half to full download it here Half D1 to Full D1

Pace Sky plus box

You have 2 choices, software reset or hardware reset. It's up to you what you try, but please read the advice in full before starting - if you break your box, please don't blame me!

SOFTWARE RESET
The following is copied from http://www.ecademy.com/node.php?id=73309

This is useful if your disk usage percentage doesn't go down even after clearing programmesfilms off.

The following is offered on an ADVICE only basis, take care when making changes:

WARNING following this advice is totally at your discretion and anything which happens to your digibox as a result is your responsibility, not mine. You will lose all recorded programmes from your Sky+ Planner.

Sky tech support can talk you through performing a system restore over the phone. To do this yourself, press 'services' on your Sky plus remote, then select option 4. Next press 0, 1, select - you should now see the engineer's menu. Choose option 8, 'Full System Reset'. The box will now take a few minutes to reset itself

Try pausing or recording again, and if the problem persists disconnect the digibox from the mains power. Press and hold the 'left' and 'right' navigation buttons on the front of the digibox whilst you reconnect the mains power. Continue holding the buttons in for about 20 seconds, and when the ring of light on the front comes on, press the 'select' button on the front of the digibox (between the left and right buttons you were holding). The Sky+ recording logo lights will spin backwards and, according to the Sky engineer, this will "clear the hard drive".

Once this is done, disconnect the digibox from the mains power again and this time press and hold the 'back up' button whilst you reconnect the mains power. Continue holding it for about 15 seconds until 3 lights on the front of the box come on and you get a full-screen message saying "Updating system software. Do not disconnect mains supply or satellite dish."

Leave the digibox doing its thing for about 10 minutes and it should be fixed! Try pausing and recording things again... hopefully you've just saved yourself £65

If you've not been so lucky, you'll have to get Sky to fix it for you. Some people report that if you ask to cancel your subscription Sky sometimes offer a free callout to fix the problem - you're more valuable to them as a paying customer than the cost of an engineer callout

Sky customer service's (seemingly unpublished) freephone number. You need to dial 0800 731 6965, then option 2, option 4 March 9, Sky have closed this Freephone number
HARDWARE RESET
Copied from http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=484098

Full System Reset via front panel:
  1. Remove power at mains.
  2. Hold LEFT+RIGHT.
  3. Apply power, wait for ring to light.
  4. Release LEFT+RIGHT, press SELECT.
  5. Ring cycles backwards while disk is quick formatted.
  6. If format sucessful PLAY lights up, if not RECORD lights up.
  7. Box goes into standby - wait 30 seconds are wake it up.

Warning: Full System Reset deletes all your recordings and planner entries.

Good luck!
