The white film or powder can be caused by a couple things. Due to environmental laws, phosphates have been almost entirely removed from DW detergent. Phosphates were effective at preventing this. Also scale buildup on screens and in the pump can reduce the amount of water being pumped around. Use less detergent, try half filling the cups. In addition to the detergent put 1/4 to 1/2 cup of citric acid in the dishwasher and running a load. This will remove scale buildup. I use it about every other day. Called limescale deposits, does it have a salt reservoir? if so fill up, if not run a bottle of white distilled vinegar in with a short program

maybe machine is not filling with correct amount of water try adding an extra omunt of water say 2 litres and see if the machine sounds like it is washing properly
open the door when operating and observe wah arm positions as these turn aroun as it washes
also check that the wash arms are not blocked

Place a cup of vinegar in top rack corner (upright) and run an empty cycle to clean any build up.
Stop using any rinse-aid (jet-dry etc.), if the detergent you're using already has it included. Too much rinse-aid can create a white film on your dishes. A good way to check for rinse-aid build up is to run your fingers on the inside of the cabinet and check for a white powdery residue on your fingers. You can also run the dishwasher for a couple of minutes and check for excess suds in the water when you open it. Excess suds would indicate a rinse-aid build up.
Run the hot water at the tap before starting the cycle and make sure it's at the recommended temperature (120-140°F).
