Merc C200 - Problem with aerial?

Merc C200 T reg. I have recently started to have problems with the radio reception. I installed a new Kenwood cd/radio about 15 months ago and have had no problems whatsoever. A few weeks ago I removed it to install another radio just to check that it worked. It did. So I removed it and put the Kenwood back in. Radio reception is now awful. It will only automatically tune to 1 or 2 FM stations - all others have to be manually tuned and are not really worth listening to as the reception is so poor. On MW I have to manually tune all stations. Reception is better in open spaces than in town. I am guessing there is a problem with the car aerial rather than the stereo. Where is the aerial? And is there a fuse that could have blown? I don't think they would need a fuse but worth asking just to rule it out.

Toyota corolla professional aerial problem, reception on radio

Some tints have metal in them so it might cause you grief but how is the radio when you wind down the windows ?
A power aerial might fix the problem put in the front fender and then run to the radio via a coaxial cable.
However in my car it was the radio that was the cause of the same bad reception and it worked on one channel only.
I have since replaced the radio but this may not be the cause of your problem and you would want to really know if the radio was the cause before incurring an expense of a new car radio.

Just fitted a cd/radio to to my 03 fiat punto. the cd player works great but the radio is rubbish, terrible reception no matter what i do. the correct connection is in the back of it. i love the radio. help...

This may not be very easy. Presuming that the aerial cable was already there and there was a standard plug on the cable that fitted into your standard socket on the radio, and presuming that you are confident that it all fitted OK, then the problem is with a faulty cable or aerial.

Just before you start, can I suggest that you DO test the radio and check that there is no fault in it. Particularly if you have removed an old radio with perfectly good reception. You might want to take it back to the shop and ask them to hook it up and test it for you. If the radio is clearly good, then my thoughts are as follows:

Typically the fault will eventially trace down to a portion of the outer copper brading in the cable being in contact with the inner core that carries the radio signal. This is usually right at the end in the plug and it's worth cutting off the plug and refitting a new one as a first step (You might even be able to carefully bare the inner core of the cable and push it into the cernre hole in the socket of the radio and test it before the new plug is fitted).

The second area of failure is typically the point at which the cable reaches the car aerial. It's not uncommon for water to get into a seal wher it is attached to the body and affect the performance of the aerial. Once again, you MAY be able to snip the cable at this end and re-make a nice clean dro connection. I have to be honest and say I don't know how the fitting go in this vehicle, so I'm shooting in the dark a little here. Obviously, if the vehicle has a built in aerial in the windscreen or back window somewhere, then my last suggestion is pretty redundant.

Finally, having tried to re-make connections at both ends of the cable, it's potentially time to buy a new aerial and cable and re-fit the whole thing from end to end. This is not a very fun job!

Poor radio reception on a Santa Fe that has the aerial as part of the near side rear window, is there a mod to improve reception.

if you live in a weak reception area the only answer is a signal booster or a new aerial on the roof.

RDS reception with BMW Business radio

Well i remember the M25 being built so i wouldnt know about radio reception ,but i do remember radio london and caroline. Now i would imagine that this sort of auto reset of tuning reception is controled by a micro chip and this chip is now not working as it should so if you want it to work then its most likely cheaper to install a new radio.Or just use long wave for radio 4.

on a lot of cars there is an antenna in the back window and if it was not reconnected when the new window was installed that would cause the problem did your old window have lines in it if so it had the heater and the antenna.
