Oven would not light. I replaced the igniter and now it lights but it will not heat past 200 degrees. Is this the thermostat acting up or is this connected to the gas supply? Any suggestions??? My oven is a GE Spectra XL44.

Do you smell propane? Any chance the entire element isn't lighting, maybe only a small part is lit and is not enough to heat the oven past 200 degrees. When you reach 200 degrees, does the oven cycle off or continue to 'try' to heat the oven? If it stays lit but won't heat any hotter, it's possible that there are blockages in the element and enough heat can't be generated from the parts still working.

When you say now it lights. is just the ignitor lighting?or can you hear the gas flowing??? can you feel it heating at all?? should start at 100 degrees and climb up from there. no reason for it not to heat past 200 (unless set to Celsius which default setting of 350 =190degress) therefore will not heat past 200. and wont let you try to heat to 425 , that would be off the charts of Celsius conversion. sensor problem would eitherno t let stove come on or wouldnt stop from heating eitherway a code would come up in the display

The oven heats up but stops a 200 degress

Good Afternoon Ben,

I see that you are having trouble with your dual fuel range, model# PLCF489AC, heating up past 200 degrees. It sounds like it could possibly be something to do with your control board or your oven thermostat. I suggest giving your appliance a hard reset. You will do this by either unplugging it or cutting the power off at the circuit breaker for at least 2-3 minutes. When power is restored to your range, if it still will not heat up past 200 degrees, I suggest you contact your local authorized technician. I hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

Tappan oven is heating up way past where the temperature is set. I even set it to 200 degrees. It goes up back 375 and still kicks in the heat up!

Sounds like a defective thermostat, look inside the oven for a sensor. It should hang from the oven top or high up on either side attached to a little clip. Looks like a metal thermometer.  If it is missing or damaged that would explain the problem and must be replaced.

Top burners often wont light if oven is already lit

I have fix that problem before, the oven heat is soficating the top burners, you will have to adjust top burners with the oven on, so that they will light by them selfs.Or put a shield under the cook top section on the back, so that the heat will not come to the burners where they get the oxigen.

GE JKS06 won't heat up past 200

Hi.
Could be that main oven stat is faulty, and also there is a possibility that the thermal overheat stat is coming in sometimes caused by poor ventilation.

Also there is sometimes a secondary element fitted to cookers which is not always obvious.
More investigation is needed.

Oven works when it feels like it.

The ignitor is weak and not lighting the oven consistently. Need to replace the ignitor.
