I have a officejet hp 8500 printer that keeps sayig "paper jam" even though I have checked this printer thoroughly? Any suggestions, I think it may have something to do with the motherboard or something similar, thanks for your response!
Constant jam indication. This gear is more than likely the cause after exhausting all other avenues. Also nearly impossible to get to let alone replace even if HP offered the part. There is a black cover over the clutch assy that can be removed to reveal the gear. In most cases the gear is either sitting in the bottom of the machine or split down one side. This is the second machine that I have diagnosed with this problem in a very short time. If you have this broken gear, consider it toast. Matt / E-tech Copier and printer repair.
etechrepair is more than likely correct. I have this same printer with the same problem. I found the subject gear busted in mine as well.
Yep, my gear is broken in the same manner. Sad it cannot be fixed. Rest of printer is perfect!!!
Yes, it can be repaired using good glue, we have done it and it worked, just have to be carefull reassembling it, white gear should be hold by the pin, white washers go into black cover at each end.
This is a common problem with this printer resulting in a false paper jam error. Can be fixed in about 30 minutes without taking the printer apart. First remove the black clutch cover. The issue is a broken gear within the clutch assembly as noted in the photo (gear at end of needle nose pliers). You will need to glue the gear back together using crazy glue. For extra strength bond, you can put a small piece of paper, soaked in crazy glue, across the broken pieces of the gear. Let dry. Gear should be aligned with pin so that it spins with the shaft. During reassembly, use a piece of tape to hold together the black clutch cover. This will allow you to wrap the cover around the gear much easier. Note that the cover has two grooves on the ends. The white washers will need to be seated properly in these grooves for the printer to work. Good luck.
Same problem - gear cracked.
