Konica Minolta Dimage 7 delay in start up and shot down procedure
Hi,
I have a Minolta Dimage 7 Digital Camera SN91202050.
I'm very keen in electronics and I have its service manual (45 pages).
Few months ago, I upgraded the firmware to ver 2.01e. (Iread the full compatebility notice before installing).
The camera worked so fine.
I've got about 2000 jpgs
And the last day I took about 200 jpgs in a very short period of time. So I was enforced to exchange the batteries during the snapshots. I'm using 2500mAh MiMH Kodak batteries. I noticed that the grey front right hand part of the camera is a little bit overheated.
The next day, and after the camera returned to its normal temperature, I tried turning the Main Switch/ Mode Dial from OFF to Recording Mode, after putting a completely charged batteries.
Unfortunately, I heard a small sound "Tick" then nothing happened else, the Data panel stayed dim(unlit) and with no data, and no red indicator had seen, also the monitor LCD didn't start. I didn't hear the noises which the camera should give in normal conditions.
I left the switch as is, few minutes later, the camera continued the startup procedure, as I heard the noises and the Data panel lit in green and it displayed the normal status.
I made several snapshots and everything were going well.
I turned the **** to playback mode, I have seen the entire snapshots I did.
Which mean tha the CF card is working well.
Also all the other knobs were working properly.
Then I decided to turn the camera OFF.
Again, the LCD monitor turned OFF directly, but the upper Data Panel was left ON!!! And I heard "tick"
Few minutes later, it turned OFF automatically. And I heard the same noises in the normal manner.
1-Does that mean the main board had a cold welding point? Or, the board was affected in the earlier overheating.
I tried to use the transformer instead of the internal batteries, and I found this same situation. Delay in the turn on and turn off. And also the delay period is the same.
2-Does that mean that some chemical capacitors were damaged? ( wich capacitor should I replace?).
3- Does that mean there is a cold welding in some points beyond the processor in the MAIN PCB ASSY(0402) due to the frequent humidity and overheating?
N.B I tested the internal backup battery, and it gave 3.24V (it's ok)
I also have had a similar problem. I have a Minolta Diamage 7i, the camera is 4 years old, I use it quite regularly. I used the camera to take photos with and then packed it away. The next day I went to use it and the camera would not turn on. Mine did not make a clicking noise at all, it seemed to me like it was completely dead. At first I thought it might be faulty batteries, so I recharged my new panasonic batteries and tried it again. I got the same result, then I tried brand new Duracell batteries, again, the camera did not switch on. I then thought it might be an internal fuse of some sort. However, I left the camera switch in the on position and 3 minute or so later the camera switched on. I could take photos as normal, downloaded them as normal. I then thought the camera might have a humidity shut down built into the circuitry. so I left it on for 10 minutes and then turned it off again. But when I tried to turn it on, it did the same thing again. If I leave the camera in the on position it eventually turns on. The on times vary anywhere from 3 to 6 minutes.
Except for this problem the camera otherwise works great. I'm thinking that it could be a dry or leaky capacitors or a capacitor related problem, I can't be certain without a circuit diagram. I am a Radio Tech by trade, so if anyone out there can help me with this matter it would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I have exactly the same problem, I'm guessing that the flash capacitor has died.
I'm using the camera for outdoor work only at the moment, when I get desperate I might try taking the top off to see if I can find the capacitor.
Hi the problem your having is that a component on the board isnt letting the correct power come from the battery therefore giving false reading on the batt display the huge problem you have is that they dont repair these cameras it just isnt financially worth it so unless you know how to test all components on the board the chances of getting it reapired are slim to none their isnt anything you can do as it is a board problem. If you tested the battery and this is fine then the problem is deffinately with the board. How long have you had the camera if its not long then i would get a refund as repairing is something they wont do sorry i couldnt help you any more but other experts will tell you the same
It sounds like a short in the circuit board. Not worth getting fixed unless you find a local person. but first try puting a set of lithium batteries in. sometimes those last forever even when other batteries last less than 10 shots.
other wise try takeing the batteries out whenever you are done and see how long they last that way. then you will know if it is a short if they last a long time.
