Flat panel TV shows a bright pinpoint of light in dark scenes

When my new Sylvania flat panel TV shows a dark scene, I can see a tiny pinpoint of white light in one spot. It is always there. Is this a sign of future larger problem?

No its not much to worry about its just a dead pixel. Most LCD TV's have them, some can be more noticable than others. Even though it can be anoying you TV is'nt going to fail because of it.

Maybe or maybe not. It is a pixel that is stuck 'on' all the time. Not a warranty claim item as a few bad pixels are allowed.....

It does not spread, but that is not to say that another pixel somewhere else on the screen will not go bad.

Either the TCON board or the LCD panel has failed. Start by replacing the TCON board. If the problem persists, the panel is bad and the cost to replace it would be too high.

Voire 46" plasma tv- best color settings, to much white

The proper way to set flat screen tv's is opposite of old school CRT tv. First, find a movie with dark scenes and pause on a really dark part. Now set brightness only high enough to see some detail - no more. then go to a really bright scene and set contrast just high enough for good brightness. You may need to go back and forth a few times to get good setting.

Brand new 47" "Edge Lit" LED, model MV4(Cant

I believe there may be another setting, it has to do with auto contrast which can make the TV seems to have high contrast ratio but sometime it does not work right, espically on the scene with dark sky with stars, someitme it will will reduce the brightness to make black real black and you can loger see the stars in the scene. I forget the name of this setting, it may be in the user manual. Do you see that in TV HD mode in other movies with a lot of dark scenes?

The TV brightness dims when the we get a dim scene

This is probably normal and called "Dynamic Contrast". Maybe this company has some other proprietary naming.

Basically, the Backlight (LCD) or Bulb (Projection) will be dimmed during dark scenes to allow the TV to make a deeper black.

Picteru darkens to much

There are two settings within you menu that controls the brightness of what is going on. OPC, and Active contrast. Turn both of those off and you should have some luck.
