Dyson DC14 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum Logo
Anonymous Posted on Mar 26, 2010

My older Dyson DC14 (the purple one) early model with a clutch on the beater bar belt needs a clutch replacement. The bar has been cleaned and there are no worn or damaged parts so I conclude that the clutch at the motor end of the belt needs to be replaced. I can find the part online but no instructions on how to disassemble the vacuum to get to and replace it. Dysons only advice is to give me the address and phone of the nearest service center. Can you help me?

Have a look at www.dysonmedic.com which has some very useful info on dismantling and repairing Dysons.

Although this site doesnt actually cover the DC14 yet, the DC14 is very similar to the DC07 so as regards dissassembling the machine, and replacing the clutch, my experience is that the DC07 info will enable you to do the job.

Beater Bar Belt Likely Broken--Can Be Checked By Removing Cover(s) Next To Beater Bar (on bottom)

Hello. i only have one arm and am trying to figure out why my beater bar wont turn on my dyson dc14. the belt smells a little too. thanx, trixie

Sounds like the beater bar is frozen in place. This sometimes happens when the ends of the bar become stuck in the holders. The solution is to remove the beater bar and clean the small holders on each end removing any debris that has built up. Spray with a little WD40 and then manually rotate the beater brush around the holders until it is free, then replace. Be sure the belt is installed properly.

The beater bar does not turn. The belt is fine.

The "switch" that turns the beater bar on and off is called the clutch. It doesn't often fail, and for you to have two fail would be exceptional bad luck - so this may not be the problem. You are aware, of course, that the beater bar is always off when the machine is upright. The clutch automatically switches to "on" when the handle is lowered (unless the clutch knob is in the permanent off position). Sorry if this is stating the obvious, but we get lots of Dysons in for repair where the only problem is the clutch knob is in the wrong position. You say the belt is fine - but there are two belts. One goes from motor to clutch, the other from clutch to beater bar. The motor-to-clutch belt is replaceable (but you can't even see it without removing the clutch cover), while the other belt is integral with the clutch unit and the whole thing must be replaced. The trouble is... even to replace the motor-to-clutch belt you have to remove the clutch from the machine and that's quite an involved job. If you're considering doing the job yourself, look at www.dysonmedic.com, scroll to the bottom of the page and look at DC07 clutch replacement, and that will give you an idea of what's involved. Good luck!

Dog hair gets caught all the time in the belt drive spool, is there a fix for this other than having to pull it out all the time by hand? I have replaced the belt and the brush but this hasnt solved the...

My Dyson started making a loud noise when in "carpet" mode. After reading a ton of forums I thought it was the clutch assembly. Got a new one on eBay for a great price. Somewhat hard to replace, but thanks to this YouTube video, I was able to get it in: http://www.ezvacuum.com/dyson-dc07dc14-clutch-assembly-90025204-genuine-p-1636.html

HOWEVER this did not resolve the issue. I realized the beater bar was not spinning or was slipping. I thought I cleaned it all out but realized you need to take the beater bar out and pop the end cap and clean out the INSIDE of the beater bar (tons of lint and cat hair). I additionally sprayed WD40 in there.

It spins great now and in the end I think that's all I had to do was clean out the cat hair build up inside the beater bar. But now I have a new clutch & belts too. Hopefully won't have issues anytime soon.

Replace belt and dyson vacuam cleaner, model dc14 I ordered a new belt and brush replacement assembly and we can't seem to understand how to get it apart to change it

If the DC14 has a brush protected aspect i.e. a switch on the front that puts the drive belt off, the drive belt would have to be replaced by a professional repairer as this can't be done at home.
If the model doesn't have the brush control at the front, flip the Dyson over so that the beater bar is in the air and locate three/four screws that can be taken out with a coin or blunt knife. A turn is all that is required on those notches and the sole plate should come off once these notches have been undone. Then check the belt - if it has broken lift out the beater bar in the middle with your hand and replace the sections necessary. Be careful to check that the end caps are pushed in properly otherwise the beater bar will not sit correctly.

Dyson DC14 Animal belt clutch slips.

The clutch problem needs to be looked at by a serviceman or professional who can repair Dysons. Slipping belts are often a sign of being overused or with carpet/textures that have caused the beater bar extra tension. I suggest if this model means much to you to get it repaired.
