How to connect a lampost to a timer. GE Time Switches 15207

I have a line (power) to a junction box, and a line out to a lamppost that are currently connected together. It's currently turned off at the circuit breaker. I want to connect it to a timer.

There are currently two black wires, two white wires and two ground wires in the junction box. I bought a GE time switch 15207.

The screw connections labeled from left to right read:
TIMER, TIMER, NC, NO, COM
Where do the black & white wires connect?

This timer has a lot of capability that you don't need, so you have to do a couple of things. I will assume that you are using this switch at 120V and simply want it to turn the light on and off. See page two of the drawing at this link: http://www.jascoproducts.com/support/manual-downloads/applications/DocumentLibraryManager/upload/15087-15207-56922-Manual-eng.pdf (this should be the same as the instruction sheet that came with your switch if you bought it new)
First, be sure to set the DIP switches according to the instructions for 120V (all 4 switches "ON").
For your wiring, refer to the first diagram on that page labeled "Timer and Load, Same Voltage, Wired as Single Throw". The two arrows on the left are the wires from your circuit breaker. The two arrows to the right are the wires going to the lamp post. The top one is black and the bottom is white. With that in mind, you will connect both white wires to the TIMER2 terminal. You will connect the black wire coming from the breaker to the TIMER1 terminal. You will also have to add a jumper wire from the TIMER1 terminal to the COM terminal. Your black wire going to the lamp post should be connected to the NO terminal (that means Normally Open, the other one is Normally Closed.)
This should get you there. Let me know if you have other questions. Be safe, good luck, and thanks for using FixYa. Please vote is this was helpful.

SOURCE: How to connect a lampost to a timer. GE Time Switches 15207

The following is for the GE 15207 to be operated at 120 volts ONLY(which is what you have):

Make sure the DIP switch is set to 120 volts (all switches in the ON position).

BOTH white wires are connected to the left most terminal. The incoming black (HOT or LINE) wire from the breaker or source is connected to the second terminal from the left.

Also under the second terminal from the left, connect a jumper (using the same gauge wire) over to the "COM" terminal.

Then connect the outgoing black wire (LOAD) to the lamppost to the "NO" terminal.

The two bare grounding wires are twisted together with the supplied wirenut. This is _very_ important for safety.

After lighting strike my grasslin gm40 only works manually are the relays fried?

1) Something is fried. Probably the electronics if relays turn on-off with override.

http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-Whole-house-surge-protector.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-GE-15207-timer.html

2) Try moving dip switches to different voltage, and change wiring and voltage for possible work around.
For example if you are controlling 240Volt, then move dip switches to 120V and run neutral wire to timer and use one 120V hot leg from 240Volt circuit to power clock motor.

3) If timer module is not rotating, then remove module for identifying marks on back. Order new FM1 timer module.

4) There is no reset protocol for this timer, or surge protection. Timer has one year warranty against workmanship defect. There are no replacement circuit boards.

5) Buy cheaper-made GE 15207 timer at Home Depot. Then if timer goes bad, buy another timer and return defect in new box for refund. This gives timer owner unofficial extended warranty.

My GE 15132 was operating fine for a year but now is losing time..the clock runs about 4 hours a day slow...I am resetting it once or twice a day....what could be wrong??

Contact Jasco and tell them what you said here.
http://www.jascoproducts.com/contactus/index.asp

Although GE has made high-quality timers for many years, the 15000 series box timers have been on the mass market for a year or so, and there are no replacement parts like available for Intermatic timers.
http://waterheatertimer.org/GE-timers-and-manuals.html

I tested the GE series and found them to be cheaply made with moveable plastic parts and lightweight overall.

Lost wiring instructions for my woods water heater timer. What wires attach to bus bar

Timer model is usually located inside the door panel:

1) Open following link to access manual with wiring diagrams.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Woods-timers-and-manuals.html#Boxtype

2) Example manual shows different wiring diagrams:
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Woods-59396-59399-manual.pdf
If you have timer with 8 terminals, and ordinary 240V water heater, then use diagram on bottom right.

3) Woods timers are wired identically to GE 15207, except your model might not have dip switches.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-GE-15207-timer.html

4) Busbar usually refers to a long metal bar where many wires connect to same pole. For example neutral busbar inside breaker box has 20 or 30 wires connected to it, and all are connected to Neutral wire from power pole.

I have a General Electric timer on my water heater. For some reason it has stopped working. How do I override the timer. It is less than a month old?

1) GE timers don't have override switch, but if you raise all the timer segments, the circuit to water heater will be completed.

2) Open link below to identify timer and see wiring diagram, and wiring instructions.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-GE-15207-timer.html

3) Override timer using the wires:
Take a photo of wiring so you can re-wire correctly on new timer.
There is 1 black and 1 white Line wire coming from the breaker.
And 1 black and 1 white Load wire going to water heater.

Connect black Line and Load wires together on same terminal.
Connect white Line and Load wires together on same terminal.
This will complete circuit to water heater and by-pass the timer.

4) Buy new timer at Home Depot.
Reconnect wires on new timer.
Return defective timer in new box.
Keep new timer clean, and swap out whenever needed and give yourself extended warranty.

5) This is the first report of GE timer going bad that I've seen on Fixya.

How do I wire a double pole double throw 240 volt ge intermatic timer to 4 240 volt plugs?

You posted under GE timer, but added the brand name Intermatic.
GE and Intermatic timers are totally different.
Wiring below is for GE and will not apply to Intermatic.

Step 1) lets cover basic GE timer wiring for 240Volt load.
Be sure to set dip switches BEFORE applying power.
Step by step illustrations show on following link.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-GE-15207-timer.html

Step 2) Load wires exit GE timer.
There are two Hot wires and 1 bare ground wire.

Step 3) Wire the outlets: You have 4 240Volt plugs.
This could mean a receptacle-type outlet like a clothes dryer outlet or air conditioner outlet.
Or it could be a twist-lock receptacle or extension-cord-type stage plug.
In all cases, look at screw color on device.
Connect Hot wires to brass colored screws.
Connect ground wire to green screw.

Step 4) Calculate total Load
Manual appears below: Look at Normally Open contacts. These contacts turn ON when timer turns ON.
http://waterheatertimer.org/15087-15207-56922-Manual-eng.pdf
Total load on all 4 plugs cannot exceed 2 HP
Generally, a 30 amp timer is rated for max 24 Amps or 6 amps per each of the 4 plugs.
Volts x amps = watts.
Take total watts and divide by 240Volts to get amps.
