I have been having the exact problem listed here. The unit just started doing this over the past few weeks. I have had it for just over a year. At first I thought it was overheating so I pointed a fan at it. That did not help.
my unit shuts down to standby mode when it reaches a certain vol. it is usally when it reaches Vol 65. this happens after some time of using it. i have had the unit for about 18 months and it started about 2 months ago
I have been having this exact problem as well except for the fact that it only occurs when I try to turn Zone 2 speakers on. When I am using Zone 1 mode, everything works fine from any input used. However, when I try to engage zone 2, the entire unit immediately shuts down.
Mine just did this. It shuts down when it reaches about 60, in volume. Not cool because I normally watch my movies from 62-67...
I have had my Onkyo TX-SR604 for at least a year, I've put off getting fixed, cause the cost of shipping and having fixed, I went out and bought a Yamaha reciever that was comparable and been using that. I've tried the master reset with holding down video 1 and the power button and the reciever clears memory, then I try to turn it on again and it goes off and the power light flashes. In the owners manual it says that the amp protection circuit has been turned on and to contact Onkyo. It's not right that we paid top dollar for something that lasted about 14 months and dies the warranty exipired and now it's a pretty shelf component that dosen't work. Please let me know if there are any solutions to fix it. I have a soildering iron if this is what it well take. I did take it to a local repair shop, they had it for a month and nothing was done, they told me they couldn't help me, cause they couldn't get Onkyo to work with them cause they aren't an Onkyo dealer, the Only Onkyo dealer is in Michigan and it'll cost me 70.00 to ship, then they charge a 75.00 troubleshooting charge and if they fix the problem then they will have to charge for that then I have to pay shippping back, so I'm looking at $210.00 and that dosent even fix it, that just tells me what happened to it. I think Onkyo needs another service shop further south. If anybody heres how to fix and can get parts I'm all game to try anything, cause at this point it's junk. Thanks and look forward to hereing back.
Just happened to me (have had receiver for 2 years and 2 months - just long enough to be outside the warranty period----Thanks Onkyo!). Mine kicks off and the standby button blinks red when I press on any of the video components (Video 1 was what I had my satelite receiver connected to). From what I've also read in the manual, it sounds like the amp surge protector is kicking on. I've got a couple Onkyo certified repair places by me but I'm worried it's going to end up costing me around $200 to fix a receiver that only cost me $399.
Need this solution in english.
