Answering How do I answer an incoming call from an extension when the switchboard is busy?

Just a guess but maybe changing the connections for the lines on the switchboard. This may also change their numbers though.

It sounds as if you have DND - Do Not DISTURB
feature turned on...

There should be a light or indicator on the STATION itself
giving the DND status.

Without call waiting or a second line, callers will get a busy signal if you're already on a call. This happens at the switchboard; it doesn't matter what type of answering machine you have because the second call doesn't get that far.
You can record your own message on the 1739 but, as mentioned above, if you're already on a call then the second call never gets that far.

Forwarding is 710x plus the extension, where x is 2 for all 3 for busy 4 is no answer and 5 is no answer/busy.

This could be a setup problem, however I suspect you may have a "smart ring" set up with the telephone company. If this is so then it won't work. If the 3 lines are dedicated, then there is something wrong with the PBX.

Hello, if you are using this phone on a Panasonic 308 or 824 system press 40 to answer external incommincg calls. To answer extension phone press 4 followed by the extension number.

The norstar extension may be setup up for Call Fwd to voicemail, or call fwd/busy. Also, Custom Call Routing may be setup to send the caller directly to the mailbox.

That sound is notification of voice mail. This phone does not disconnect incoming calls on answering machine extension so your phone is actually off the hook for hours without your knowledge.

just set the amount of rings higher on the back of the phone and make sure all you old messages are deleted and also make sure its not set to do not disturb
