Wiring new motor

I bought a new motor for my pool an AO SMITH B855 2 hp but I neglected like so many others to tag the wires. Problem...I have the green ground wire but both others are black. Diagram is L1 and L2 both have two terminals. L2 has a white wire attached to one side. I also have one terminal B that stands alone at the top of the motor and terminal A that also stands alone at the bottom of the motor. I'm sure it matters which line goes where? Help?

I am assuming you are running 110 vac. Usually there is a diagram on the plate with the motor specification. You want the low voltage for110 and high for 220 motor wiring diagram you connect the motor as shown. If it is not on that motor it maybe on the old one they are usually the same.

You will need wire nuts to tie together the wires.

Note if this is a capacitive start or switch start. Allot of pool pumps are Switch start.

SOURCE: Wiring new motor

The L1 and L2 are the load terminals. Connect the black wires to the L1 and L2 and the green one to the green colored screw.

Hi,i have a AO Smith S# c56a05a19 HP 3/4 ,type C, v 115/230 , Ph 1.0. I need to connect it to 230 volt. , can´t find a Wiring diagram. Can someone please help??

Yes this is an old thread but info is still helpful to those that are searching. Here is one diagram from a 3/4 motor. Be aware that most residential high voltage are 240v. This will have the motor turning a bit faster.

A.O. Smith c48k2pa105c5 pool pump motor was running fine for 3 weeks. The other day it shut off cause of the thermal switch. Well now when I turn it on it works fien for a couple minutes then it shuts off...

If you mean that this motor is only 3 weeks old, and this is happening, return the motor.

If its an old motor and this is happening, purchase a new one. Even if you had a technician come out to look at the motor, chances are it would cost more than the motor itself.

Largest causes of thermal overload are.

-incorrect wiring
-wiring to wrong voltage
-incorrect wiring size
-bad motor windings
-bad rear end bearings.

Wiring a 220v single phase motor and capacitor

Black and white are usually power. an ohmmeter will confirm. Brown are for capacitors. There is almost always a diagram on the motor someplace. Eric

Which wires goes to which post ? Just bought an ao smith 3/4 hp booster motor for my polaris pool cleaner. It has two yellow wire posts. Which do I conect the black and white wires to?

It does not matter. Just make sure it is set to the correct voltage your system supplies to it and that you put pne wire on each terminal as the diagram on the side of the motor will show you.
