Hi, sounds like your defrost clock is stuck in the defrost mode. On most true boxes they have a paragon defrost clock with adjustable pins you can set the amount of cycles and duration of the defrost cycle. Find the clock and give it a turn in the direction of the arrow or cw. It will come out of defrost and start to freeze again. If it continues, you may need a new clock. Let me know what you find. Keep me posted. True boxes are top of the line

Hi, I have done some checking on this box which is set up a little different then the larger boxes by true. The defrost clock is located behind the lower front grill. Remove the 4 screws to remove the louvered grill and the defrost timer is located in the lower right corner inside a electrical box. It is a grasslin timer not a paragon but works the same. It is set to defrost 3 times a day at 30 minute intervals. This is the location for single door units, double door units it is in the middle of the cabinet, behind the louvered grill.Timer is mounted to the left of the centered ballast box (Inside of gray timer box. Check the timer and time it with your watch to see if it if moving. If not, the clock is stuck in defrost and should be replaced. Try and advancing it forward to see if you can bring it out of defrost. Please keep me posted on this. If you still need help I can get you a link for a manual on this box.
    Sincerely,
    Shastalaker7

Coils ice up

My best guess is that the drain has some debris in it and the defrosted water from the coil is being picked up and being re-frozen against the coil and freezing up the drain pan. The defrost timer may have failed, the defrost termination button fastened to the coil may have failed, the defrost heater on the coil itself may have separated from the coil or just outright failed. Hope this helps and good luck.

Can I bypass defrost timer

Its not a good idea. If you cross up the wiring you may cook the thing.

Defrost timer stuck in DS2 what can I do

I do not know this unit but I would assume the defrost timer has failed. Check if it is in warranty, if so make a warranty claim, if not you would either replace it or have somebody do that for you.

This evaporator coil gets all iced up about once a month and quits cooling

Check the condenser coil is clear and clean, and thermostat set about 2 or 3. Also check the fan is running with door closed, and no food is too close to the top stopping the airflow over the evaporator. It may be as simple as a blocked drain backing up - check the drain tube next time it defrosts.

True freezer model TS49f-RC. Evaporator fans will not run. Defrost timer will not stay in defrost when manually turned to defrost. Believe defrost termination switch is bad. ?

You are most likely correct. Most manufacturers of freezers have fan delay/defrost terminators. But keep in mind that if the box is hot, it will not stay in defrost as that is what the terminator is designed to do. Does the unit ever get cold? You may have a refrigeration problem and the terminator is good. If you can give some additional info, I'll be glad to keep assisting you to get it going.

Do you know where I can get the defrost heat element for a True freezer T-49, in Dallas, Tx.

Try refrigeration hardware service out of Colorado. I'm not sure they sell to the end user, give them a try.

We have a true T49F freezer and the evaporator fans are not running. The compressor is running on startup. The coils are cold. But are freezing up. Shouldn't the fan be on, or does the cabinet have to...

Freezers have a sensor that is referred to as a "Fan Delay/Defrost Terminator". It senses the temp during the defrost cycle. Usually, when the evap temp reaches about 50 degrees, there should not be any frost or ice on it. This device terminates the defrost cycle. It also keeps the fans off so warm air is not circulated. When the evap gets to about 20 degress or so, the sensor switches on the evap fans. If the fans are not coming on, either the sensor is bad or the evap is not reaching the proper temp to cause the sensor to turn on the fans.

Hope is helps to clear up some things and point you in a direction as to what might be going on.

I have a True Freezer Model T-49. It works fine but every 3 or 4

This sounds like a stuck relay to me. I have seen this problem before. The defrost clock kills power to the compressor relay coil during defrost. If the contacts in the relay are welded together the compressor runs while unit is trying to defrost. On newer units this relay is mounted in base of unit on the side or back of the electrical box near center bottom of unit. The compressor relay is a small rectangular box with 4 wires attached. It can be replaced with a single pole 20 amp contactor with a 120 volt coil/ or 240 volt. Check the units name plate voltage rating and ratings on old relay! ;)
