Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:

- bad door switches or door switch mounts
- loose connection at the magnetron
- problem or loose connection on the control unit circuit board
- bad magnetron or other high voltage part (such as a shorted diode)

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

RE: Samsung microwave SMH7187STG mfg'd 5/08. I heated cup of tea 2 min. Then I closed micro's door & micro emitted a continuous electrical buzzing sound.I opened door & buzzing stopped.

The cook relay on your control board is shorted, and the unit is cooking whenever you close the door.

When the magnetron overheats, its thermostat opens, shutting power down until the unit cools to a safe level, then power is restored.

I regularly repair these with my $54.95 service, which includes insured return shipping.

Details are here, or for full information and instructions, please e-mail me here at [email protected] and remind me of your full model number and symptoms.

Why would the turntable stop turning and the unit stop heating?

hi,
there is a micro switch that signals when the door is closed. this tells the machine that it's okay to start the turntable and heating process.. if the micro switch breaks or shorts out then the switch does not send the signal so the machine does not work.

Microwave light turns on and vent fan runs when door is closed. It heats fine and functions work fine. It is not heating or counting down when closed, just light and fan.

Hi,
You have a shorted door switch, not a difficult repair. You will need a micro switch and knowledge of microwave repair to replace this switch.
I hope this answered your question

I need model WMS25EGSI to operate my microwave that does not heat

Classic Door Safety Interlock Switch failure. Remove the cover, check the micro switches with a ohm meter for proper operation. They should show 'short' when the door is closed and "open" when the door is open ... or the reverse of this depending on the method used by the manufacturer. Point being, the switches show one condition with the door open and the other condition with the door closed.

The oven needs to know the door is closed before it will turn on the heat. If the switches have failed, the oven thinks the door is open ... make sense?

Why do they fail? Because we all open the door while the oven is operating and this causes switch failure.

Thanks for your question @ FixYa.com

My microwave will run but it doesn't produce any heat... We have been having quite a few power bumps lately...

This is classic door safety interlock switch failure. Remove the cover and check the micro switches you will find near the latch. If they are failed, the oven can't tell if the door is closed ... door not closed, the oven will not turn on the heat.

If the switches check out ... it could be the capacitor ... you can't and shouldn't test this beyond removing and reinstalling the leads. The capacitor stores a LOT of power and can be lethal. Shorting the device out can be dangerous. Proceed at your own risk.

Emerson microwave mw8773sl has no power, no lights

Make sure that a lamp will work in the outlet powering the microwave. If ok, remove the case (with the plug pulled), and look for a tripped breaker or blown fuse. If found, check for a shorted high voltage diode in the magnetron power supply. It may also have a shorted stirrer bearing located above or beside the cavity where the microwaves come into it. The stirrer is a metal fan-like device that scatters the microwaves to get more even heating and has a plastic bearing that arcs internally causing a microwave short. Replace the stirrer unit.
If no fuse or breaker troubles, look for faulty or loose micro-switches around the door latch mechanism.

Boiling waer under micro wave lots of steam into micro wave, turn on micro wave ,pop noise like glass miro wave comes on louder hum than normal no heat

Q - The microwave display counts down and the inside light is on,  but nothing is heating and the fan is not running.
A - This most commonly is a bad door switch, other possible problems are a faulty relay or solder joint on the power module, but a bad door switch is most common.
Q - My microwave is running and sounds like it is working but will not heat up anything.
A - Many thing can do this but, common things are....loose high voltage wire.....poor solder joint on board.....magnetron.....power relay.....
Q - The microwave makes a loud "hum or buzz" noise but will not heat up the food?
A - 9 times out of 10 this is usually this is a bad magnetron, the other time is sometimes a bad high voltage diode. See components section.

Micro turns on but doesnot heat also turn on by self

Hello bbmasonjim,
If your micro turns on ( meaning everything seems to be working from the control panel) and you aren't getting microwave energy to heat food..you may have any number of damaged or defective components : Magnetron Tube, Filament Power Supply or HV Capacitor.. None of which are something the untrained person should mess with. Even unplugged, there is High Voltage potential inside the electronics compartment. If it is less than a year old, it may still be under warranty.. otherwise.. the cost to repair would probably be higher than the cost to replace..

Regards,
Rick
