No sound from the pc - Intel CMI 8738 6-Channel 5.1 Surround Sound 3D PCI Sound Card (RETAIL BOX) - CM8738

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Need more information about the issue.... as in:

Have u replaced the sound card?
When did the issue first occur?
If you have installed and not able to use from first use onwards, have you installed the drivers?
Which Operating system is installed on the Computer (Win XP, Vista, 7 etc)?
Are you using an external speaker or speakers attached to monitor itself?

Am providing a common troubleshooting doc from HP which normally applies for most of the sound problems. But check if you have connected audio cable from PC to Monitor if speakers are located on the monitor itself.

Hi Michael,

There can be many problems, why you can't get any sound from your computer.

If you didn't already check them with another audio source or by connecting to another computer, check your speakers and earphones/headphones to make sure they are not the cause. A very common mistake that people do, is to accidentally connect the speaker cable (one with the green connector), to the Line-out or Microphone socket on the back of the computer. Just double-check to make sure, this is not the cause of the problem.

If the speakers and headphones work fine with the other audio source or on another computer, you may try doing a system restore to a previous state. You may want to create a new restore point first, before doing that, so that if the previous state is worse, you can return the computer back to the present state. To know more about System Restore, go to this link or copy/paste it into your browser: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Restore

If system restore didn't work for you, then, look carefully on the Windows Taskbar (near the clock). Do you see the speaker icon or does it have a red cross on it? Touch it with the mouse pointer. Does it show any error message? If yes, then most likely the sound driver is missing or corrupted. You can try updating the drivers, other than with Microsoft update wizard, either by manually downloading the drivers from your computer manufacturer's page, or with an easier method.

Here's the easy method to get or update your sound drivers:

You could try to use this driver scanning tool, which would scan your computer for needed drivers and has an option to automatically retrieve them for you.

You can download this free driver scanning tool from here: http://xpdrivers.com/index.cfm or directly from this link: http://xpdrivers.com/download/download.c… (copy and paste the link, if you can't click it).

After you have downloaded the above file, double-click on it and follow the simple steps to install it. Then, when it asks if you want to run it, just answer yes. This is easier than manually searching, downloading and installing the drivers.

For Windows XP Driver Files and How-to Resources, visit http://xpdrivers.com

Hope that helps,
Regards,
Raspal

I use attached the pc on tv but i didi not here any sound please tell me sound pin cable attached the tv?

Hi sahazada pak,
As i know, TV set not support sound from PC input.
If you want here sound and still working with PC, you should use HDMI or DVI input from your PC out. HDMI has support image and sound in one cable. DVI only image without sound. if you use DVI , sound pc should connected to audio in.
Good luck.

My dv9700 has no sound anymore. The message says, "no sound device found"

reinstall your PC's sound drivers using the drivers disk which came with the PC.
Alternatively, go to the HP website and use their automatic update service to update and reinstall your sound drivers. www.hp.com/support

If reinstalling the sound drivers fails, you may have a logic fault with your sound system, take the PC to a professional for this as this is part of the mainboard.

After formating my pc i hear no sound..My pc is Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600) Help...

After PC format, you now need to put all the required pc drivers like modem driver, sound driver, LAN driver, WAN Driver, Camera Driver and other driver software. Maybe you miss this software. Check your device manager if you pc is not reading the sound card hardware because you have not install the sound card driver to activate the sound card.

No sound coming from computer. speakers work tested on other stereo

The speakers may work but you probably have no sound driver. It is a sound driver that makes sound come from your pc. Type in your computers name and model on google and download drivers for your pc. If it is not drivers then your sound card is faulty.
