The eMachines eTower 600is uses an Intel Celeron III processor that operates at a maximum frequency rate of 600MegaHertz. (600MHz)

http://www.emachines.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=eTower%20Series&model=eTower_600is

The Intel Celeron 600 uses a Socket 370 processor socket.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Celeron_microprocessors#.22Coppermine-128.22_.28180_nm.29

There is a locking arm on the side of the Socket 370 processor socket, that is unlocked by easing the arm over to one side to clear a lock tab, then the arm is lifted up to remove the processor.

Example of a Socket 370 processor socket,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_370

The eMachines eTower 600is uses an Intel 810 chipset, for the motherboard chipset.
[Chip and Chipset are slang terms used for Integrated Circuit, or IC]

The Intel 810 chipset, supports processors with a 66MegaHertz Front Side Bus. (66MHz FSB), or 100MHz FSB.

In an additional link, I will give a recommendation of where to buy an Intel Celeron 600, that uses a 66MHz FSB.
I'm not advertising for this place, it's just a place I have used, and have had good results.

Also information on the Intel 810 chipset.

You could also use an Intel Celeron 700MHz processor, but better still you could use an Intel Pentium III 933MHz processor.

Pentium's typically have Two times, the L2 cache that a comparable Celeron has.The more L2 cache a processor has, the faster it's going to process information.

I also know it will work because out in my shop I have an eMachines T1090, that has an Intel 810 chipset, uses a Socket 370 processor socket, and has an Intel Pentium III 933MHz processor in it.
(Made in 2001, and still works good to this day)

The Intel Pentium III 933MHz processor uses a 100MHz FSB.
The Intel 810 chipset supports processors that have either a 66MHz FSB, or a 100MHz FSB.

If you are not familiar with computer hardware technology, then I have just thrown a whole lot of information at you that is unfamiliar.

Should you like me to break down the information, I would be glad to. Just state so in a Comment.

How can I get proper drivers and Windows Millenium software downloads by machine serial number?

Windows Millenium has not been supported by Microsoft for many years now, and there are no legacy drivers or other downloads available for it.
Best thing you can do is to load Windows 7 or later on the machine (most machines that were capable of running Windows Millenium are also capable of running Windows 7).

Installing new cpu on a emachine

According to the specs I have Serena, the eMachines eTower 633i Desktop PC, uses a TriGem Cognac motherboard.

[TriGem is the manufacturer, Cognac is the model.
Note it is Not the TriGem Cognac+ ]

http://www.motherboards.org/mobot/motherboards_d/Trigem/Cognac/

Specifications. (You can click on the photo to enlarge)

PDF motherboard manual,

http://www.elhvb.com/mboards/TriGem/manuals/index.html

Click on - Cognac - in the left side of the list.

Going back to the Motherboards.org page;
(Nothing like upside down photo information, and the motherboard is turned 90 degrees to the Right, to how it actually sits in your computer case )

The processor socket is a Socket 370,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_370

Used for Intel Pentium III processors, and intel 'Celey' processors.

(Excuse me......Celeron.
An Intel Pentium III processor has TWICE the L2 cache, that a comparable Intel Celeron has.
The cache for a Processor is a small memory area for the Processor.

It is the First memory the Processor accesses.
The Ram Memory is second, and the Harddrive is third.
More cache for a Processor makes it more faster )

The motherboard chipset is an Intel 810.

The Northbridge chip of the motherboard chipset, is an Intel 82810.
The Southbridge chip is an Intel 82801AA, or an Intel 82801AB.
(Intel ICH, or Intel ICH0 )

Looking at the chart, and reading across, you can see what the Intel 810 motherboard chipset supports;

1) Processors: Intel Celeron, or Intel Pentium II, or Intel Pentium III.

2) Processor Front Side Bus: (FSB) 66MegaHertz, or 100MHz.

3) SDR Sdram ram memory at 100Megahertz.

[Single Data Rate Sdram is often just referred to as Sdram.

Erroneous.
Double Data Rate Sdram is also Sdram (DDR Sdram)
Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory
So is DDR2 Sdram, and DDR3 Sdram ]

Also referred to as PC100.

So when looking for a CPU you look for;

1) Fits in a Socket 370 processor socket.
Yep. The best is going to be an Intel Pentium III.

2) Has a FSB of 100MHz.

Hmmm,............

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Pentium_III_microprocessors#.22Coppermine.22_.28180_nm.29

Scroll down.

Pentium III 1100.

Maximum frequency rate ('Speed') is 1.1GHz (1100MHz)
Front Side Bus = 100MHz
Uses a Socket 370 processor socket.
Part Number = RB80526PY005256
sSpec Number = SL5QW

In the top header -
Specifications / Pictures (1) / CPU ID (1) / Comments (1),

You can click on the photo to enlarge.
256MegaByte of L2 cache. (256MB)

A comparable Celeron would have 128MB of L2 cache.

http://www.impactcomputers.com/sl5qw.html

[ Don't forget to follow Anti-Static Precautions.
Clean the bottom of the Heatsink THOROUGHLY, and the top of the Processor if it needs it. (I always do anyway)

PROPERLY apply fresh, new Thermal Paste.

I have an old emachine tower here that is lacking the network controller driver. can't seem to find it anywhere, just get sent running around in circles. know where i can obtain it ( using xp on it) ?

If you have an extra pci slot then you can buy yourself a network adapter card. There are plenty available on your local shop or on ebay. You can choose from wireless, wired or one that comes with both.

Hope this helps.
