Hot shots golf out of bounds troubles
This happened to me as well. The first time, my PS3 seemed to hang during the second update. The next time, I quit the update because I thought the system was stuck in an infinite loop. Turns out that it isn't.
Start from the beginning by deleting the game data file from the PS3 hard drive. Boot up HSG:OOB and wait for it to install. This takes a while, as I think it is something like a 5GB install. When it is finished, go into the game and select the Online option.
You'll see the "Checking version" message followed by a couple of status bars. Depending upon your connection, the update can take anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour. Just walk away and come back to it. When it is finished, you'll be told to press the PS button to quit and then restart the game.
Once back on the main screen, you should see a version # that wasn't there before, on the right side of the screen. You might want to write this number down.
Go back into the Online option. Once again, you'll see a "Checking version" message followed by a couple of status bars. It looks the same as the last update, so you might think this is an error. It isn't. Apparently, rather than updating once to the latest version, the game is going through a series of updates (2 or 3 of them). It's like taking Windows 95, updating it to Windows 98, then updating it to Windows ME, and finally updating it to Windows XP.
Wait for the update process another time or two. For me, each subsequent update took less time. Something like 20-30 minutes for the last one. When you are asked to quit and restart the game, check the version on the main screen. It should be different than what you wrote down after the first update. For me, my updates ended with ver. 090311201. Finally, I was able to select online and it didn't check the version but asked for my login info.
Whenever they update the game, I'm sure we'll have to download the update once again...but hopefully each new update will be minor. But those people who purchase the game brand new will end up going through even more updates with each passing year.
