I have installed a selectable 12/24 volt trolling motor on my boat. When in the 24 volt mode, the motor works well for about 3-4 minutes the loses all power. After about a 15-20 minute "cooling off period" the motor will work again for about 3-4 minutes. In the 12 volt mode, the motor works well all the time, only at about half the speed of the 24 volt mode. Why is my motor losing all power in the 24 volt mode?

No. you can put in extra batteries and use it, but you must remove you charging system from them to use it that way. Not really practical.

SOURCE: wanting to install motorguide 24v trolling motor

It should but may not run at it's intended potential. It may also run your battery down a lot quicker.

Motorguide Pro series 4300. Has power to the plug but won't spin. Does it need to be in the vertical position to run?

Dodging the answer, here is the contact number of motorguide for support; https://www.motorguide.com/us/en/contact-support.html

MotorGuide Technical Service:

or use the form on the above page to contact them. A sheared pin, a low setting on the speed control, or a breaker problem all can cause failure to spin. https://www.boats.net/catalog/motorguide/trolling-motor/motorguide-pro-series/complete-trolling-motor-model-mp4300-12-volt

24 volt trolling motor (motorguide) not working. Have 24 volts at receptacle in hull of boat but when I plug in the trolling motor and check the volts on the plug, I only read 6 volts. Any idea whats...

You have a high resistance short either inside the wiring or the lower unit. This will cause a voltage drop. I would be very careful not to keep it connected too long cuz the battery is trying to keep up with the current demand and may explode.

Is this a straight 24V system... not a 12v - 24v.Correct..
The best advice is use a 50-60 amp resettable breaker..with 6 gauge wire (minimum 8 gauge) ... make sure your connections are clean, tight, and greased to prevent corrosion. USE a BIG HEAVY "jumper" cable between the + and - terminals.

Here are several sites that explain what you need to know..
I went from a 12-24v to a straight 36v Motorguide on my 21ft triton.. WOW!!!! talk about BAD A$$!!
I use the felt washers under all battery connections and the battery spray liberally on each connection..

sound like either voltage drop or hi resistance from cables... if you test 24v at the plug then resistance is the problem and may have to rewire to a 6ga wire to carry the load, pretty simple just hook the new cable to the old one and SLOWLY pull it thru, help may be required because you dont want to loose it half way.....hope this helps...GL
