Sound like different problems. In the matter of your rear passenger door, you may have a loose or broken cable which connects the handle to the release mechanism.
As for the driver door, you may have a bad cylinder or complete door door latch.
That hand brake light is also your conventional brake
warning lite. Hopefully its the flimsy connector and switch that is making it flicker. But to play it safe have some one do an inspection of your brake system and if it turns out to be the wiring or the switch we can both laugh about it. This repair is not a biggie at all IF ITS THE SWITCH OR ITS WIRING.
You have what we call broken spatulars if I have spelt that correct, on the other side of your lock barrell is a very brital metal rod which always snaps, if you go to your dealer they willnow exactly what you mean as it is too common, best to replace the rod and all the springs and clips too, the use of a vice is a must unless you have really strong fingers.
I just did mine on a MK3 GTI, you turn both sides clockwise. DO NOT turn them anti-clockwise. Also, apply pressure to the piston while turning it. Hope you can learn from my mistakes.
