When was the last time you updated the QuickFix of your TomTom? It helps your GPS to find the satellites.

Please, do the following:

1) Install "TomTom Home" software in your computer from www.tomtom.com
2) Start TomTom Home in your computer
3) Plug in the GPS dock to your computer's USB port and place the GPS on the dock. The green light on the bottom right of the GPS should turn ON to indicate that the GPS is getting power from the dock and charging
4) Start your GPS while being in the dock. If the GPS asks "do you want to connect to computer" answer "YES"
5) The TomTom Home software will detect the GPS and check if there are any updates for it. Then you'll be offered updates to install. Some are free, some are not. You choose the ones you want to install.
Please, report back if you need further assistance

Tom Tom XL shows me 200-300 yards from my actual

1- Signal strenght loss is a common problem, has to do with how often they refresh, whats on your dash and how good the line of sight is to the gps sattelites. Ironically the window mount that they give you can in some cases place the gps unit too far back from the window to get good clear reception.
2- You are out in the field because of the maps that you are using. Maps while mostly accurate are not exact and road changes that are made to sections of road may take years to show up in the map or might never show up. There are only two or three actual companies that do the gps survey work for the roads, and gps manufacturers like Tom Tom buy user rights to use these maps, so if a particular section of road has changed or been moved and nobody has been out to recalcute the changes then your gps will be off the mark.
Hope this information helps you out.

Similar issue..tom tom would not pickup sattelites.

definitely!never ever keep GPS in glovebox or center console heat in cxars goes above 140 degrees in summer and can cause meltdown and distortion of plastic as well as total destruction of SD cards It also kills off memory.
If you are goiung to store a GPS for any period place it in a place away from magnets heat and extreme cold ( heat and cold also destroy batteries)

Keeps displaying cannot get valid gps signal was working fine last week now does not work

i work as a truck driver on a small fleet of 7 vehicles in the midlands UK

3 of us have Tom Toms, the others have medion, navman or garmin.

ALL the tom tom users have been experiencing GPS problems this week ( june 21 onwards ) whilst the rest of us have seen no change in GPS satelite availability.

In addition, a friend who uses a TOM TOM One XL in another part of the UK has also had same problems.

Its a TOM TOM problem generally it seems, and NOT your particular piece of kit.

Poor gps reception on tom tom one

my tom tom one third edition connects in less than 40 seconds from ca cold start.
first reset everything then connect it to your computer and upload all the needed updates to it( especially the QUICKGPSFIX feature that speeds up the time it takes to connect to satellites.
after that. go outside and wait for the signal to be acquired ( less than 2 minutes)

Tom Tom XL worked fine and then after stopping for lunch could not find satelite signal the rest of the 200 mile drive.

Try going online at the Tom Tom site and updating the device (it's free). There's a new update each week that tells the Tom Tom where the satellites will be during the coming seven days. Admittedly, this only speeds up the process and not finding a signal for 200 miles is a stretch, but it's worth a try if you don't regularly update.

Unable to aquire satelites garmin nuvi 255 w. flew from newfoundland to toronto. unable to aquire sattelites at toronto.

When you change geographical locations with any GPS it will take a lot longer for the GPS to acquire the sattelites. Hold the GPS out in an unobstructed area and switch it on. Be patient it will acqurie the signals if it was working before you left home.
