I think when you say the "bit at the top" you are referring to the metal tab that engages into the door interlock switch mounted in the door frame. If so it is and easy fix.

The metal tab engages the door switch, this is the same switch that is actuated by moving the handle on the door. It tells the machine that the door is closed and it is OK to start. The tab can become misaligned or bent over time and will not engage properly.

To fix this the easy way is to simply bend the metal tab so as it engages properly. You will need to fiddle with it to get it to the correct position but it will work when you get it there.

The only other door jam that can happen is the springs the support the door become jammed. This you will know right away if the door just falls to the floor when opened. The springs can jam in the door hinge and stop it closing. You would pull the machine out and reconnect the springs. But from what you say this is not the problem.

I hope this help you, please take the time to rate this answer.

Is it operable when the door is close? I'm having a similar problem. The console panel on the top of the door appears to be not working. No lights. No buttons will respond. However when the door is shut, I can squeeze a finger to the start button and actually start the dishwasher. Light also come on when the dishwasher door is closed.

Won't start

Most likely the door close sensor is not able to determine the drawer has been shut. Either the drawer has come off the rails or the sensor is faulty. The other possibility is the door seal (located at the top of the housing is out of place and is preventing the door from closing.

Best option is to get the drawer out from the housing and inspect the door seal. To get the drawer out refer to page 7 (step 2) in the installation manual.

Let me know if you want to fix this yourself or get a technician. It requires a bit of familiarity with electrical repairs.

Please rate the solution so that we know if it was of help.

Making noise and won't shut

Hi, As far as the door not shutting, check and see if it is hittikg the screw that holds the d/w to the counter top. If you get the door to close, check the water level after it fills and se if it gets up to the heat element.
