Tape drive replacement trouble

I am replacing a Dell VS80 tape drive that came with a PowerEdge 4600. The old tape drive has no problem being recognized but the new Quantum VS80 does not show up. Termination, ID, connection and voltage is not the problem. Any ideas?

I have a dell4600 with ide drives only, error message drive not found and in bios it can only go to auto

Hello,

I would check your cables and connection to the server board. If these two are correct and you still get this error(s) you may need to use a desktop os such as XP, VISTA, WIN 7 to access the data.

Good Luck

How do you manualy eject a stuck tape from a Quantum DLT VS80 external tape drive

Hello, if it has an eject button, press it quickly several times (can't remember the exact number; try 3 first, then 5, then 7)the reason being that on earlier DLT's the firmware would cause a drive reset which would, if there wasn't a detached leader or other physical problem, result in a tape unload.
p.s. do let me know how you get on!

Dell pe4600 I05F0 instrusion

I also had I05F0 instrusion alert with amber lights flashing. After much searching I found that it meant "Chassis intrusion" - When you remove the cover, the system assumes that you are servicing the bad component; the LCD display will clear when you replace the cover. Our IT guy didn't put the cover back on completely the last time he was in there!

How do I replace a 73Gb disk in a RAID 5 config - DELL PE 4600

That depends on your configuration.
If the drive you want to change is installed in the peripheral bay, you have to turn the machine off before you can pull that drive out. Also: Hot-plug drive installation is not supported for systems without an integrated RAID controller or host adapter expansion card!

Look for more details on how to change a drive here.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

Does Dell PowerEdge 4600 Server support DVD ROM

I am working on one of these now and yes, it should boot from DVDROM. Be aware that it is a notebook style drive and there are no onboard IDE or SATA controllers, so once the drive dies you're in for a wallet hit. Same goes for the floppy drive which is integrated with the DVDROM. Even worse, the presence of the broken floppy usually means a USB floppy drive won't help when loading windows drivers at install time.

Tape eject from drive

Hi. This is from Dells site regarding automatic ejection of tape once inserted:

The PowerVault 110T DLT VS160 Tape drive reads and writes DLTtape VS1 cartridges. The PowerVault 110T DLT VS160 Tape drive can read - but not write - DLTtape™ IV cartridges written using the DLT1/VS80 format. NOTE: The PowerVault 110T DLT VS160 Tape drive automatically ejects any other cartridge types and any cartridges whose format it cannot read. Make sure all cartridges that you want to use for writing are DLTtape VS1 cartridges.

Perhaps your cartridge is improperly formatted or is of the incorrect type?
