Cajun P333T doesn't accept input from serial

When I connect to the switch using the serial interface, I get the username prompt but nothing I type seems to register. I've tried both Hyperterminal and SecureCRT, with no luck. Am I doing something wrong? Do I have a wrong setting on my terminal app? I'm using VT100 emulation, 8n1 with no flow control.

All info from juliankov appears good.. but thought I'd add a bit of stuff I found on a web site..

http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=300461&page=2

Use a console cable with following minimum pinout (the flat gray one with the RJ45- D9 type converter currently shipping with new P33xx switches will suffice): DB9 Console Port
1 ----------- 6
2 ----------- 3
3 ----------- 2
4 ----------- 4
5 ----------- 5
6
7 ----------- 8
8 ----------- 7
9

Obviously the speed is set to 9600
maybe stop all sessions & try to re-establish a new one. The instruction manual warns u can only run one..

Hi, it sounds like its not receiving anything from your console. your settings sounds correct for your serial comms etc.. if you can see the data coming in on the screen (ie user prompt). Check your serial cable to ensure you have actually wired it up correctly, perhaps the wire for Rx has fallen off / bad solder joint (at the network switch end), or could be the Tx end as well (at the computer end). check that all the pins look okay and aren't bent at the computer serial port, you could also try another serial port or another computer. I use Hyperterminal for many applications. You may also need to use a null modem serial cable (i dont know what you are using).

Forgot ip address and password

To re-enable the Console access requires the SW2900 series to be reset to its default settings via the WEB INTERFACE
- Web Interface
- Device >Configuration >Initialize To change the Default User "ADMIN" password it is necessary to use the Console connection
-Console Interface
-Once the unit has successfully booted and the prompt presented
-Enter "password" (without "")
-Enter "admin" when the system prompts for User
-Press the "Enter" key when the system prompts for "Old Password" (the ADMIN password was reset by the Web Interface commands)
-Enter "" when the system prompts for the New Password (where "" is the new product ADMIN password)
-Enter "" when the system prompts to confirm the New Password In order to complete the configuration it is necessary to save the configuration via the WEB INTERFACE
-Web Interface
-Device > Configuration > Save
Symptom:
SW2900 Baseline Switch - Default console access disabled following password change
From the web interface, the default user "admin" password is changed and console access is disabled
Cause:
When applying the new password, by default the service-type is set to "telnet". When applied, the default "terminal" setting is removed thus disabling console access.

Tenda router input eror

It's not the username and password from your ISP. If you try to access your router and you have not changed anything, use the following values:
username = admin
password = admin

Once in the router interface, you will have to configure the router for your DSL-modem (I guess it's DSL since Windstream does not produce cable modems.)
Here fill in the username and password your ISP provided you with.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Save config

After changing all the necessary parameters using the CLI, use the write command to save your system configuration. If you receive any error messages, your configuration has not been saved. You must correct the errors and re-issue the write command. Notification of write errors is presented in a two column display: ? The left column contains the parameter values that you set in this session and need to be changed. ? The right column contains the parameter values currently saved in the Cajun P116. Wait 15 seconds for confirmation of the write process. Then exit Privileged level by typing exit at the prompt. For example, CajunP116-priv# exit. The cursor changes to CajunP116> to indicate that you are in Normal level. Verify that all the parameters were accurately saved by using the show all or show all list command. The Cajun P116 is now ready for cabling and operation. You may exit your CLI session.

How can I reset it back to original configration

Hey Eric, I do use same Avaya switch at my lab at office. To me what you have to do is quite simple, first of all you have to get from your network administrator the following info: - Free IP to assign to the switch - Subnet - Gateway (If you ping such IP from a machine of same subnet, there will not be an answer). Then log as superuser (#) and do this: 1. Type set interface inband Replacing , and with the VLAN, IP address and netmask provided by your network administrator and press Enter. (for VLAN you can list them and decide which one to use, but normally you should use 1) 2. Type reset and press Enter to reset the stack. 3. After the Reset, perform login again as superuser. 4. Type set ip route , replacing and with the destination and gateway IP addresses. (If you want all packets not from your subnet to be send to the gateway, then use 0.0.0.0 as destination, list routes set on device for more info) 5. Press Enter to save the destination and gateway IP addresses. That's all. Your switch will be rechable from your same subnet and from other networks if your gateway is working properly and there's no other element blocking you the access. Good Luck!
